Published in 1949, this selection of letters between Robert
Mackay, and his wife, Eliza Anne Mackay, provide unique insight
into the life of a southern merchant during the early part of the
nineteenth century. The Mackay's correspondence covers business,
friendships, social life, and family, in addition to historical
events unfolding at the time. The letters in this volume were sent
from the Mackay's hometown of Savannah and from such port cities as
Norfolk, Charleston, New York, London, and Liverpool.
