The South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC)
encompasses seven countries of a large landmass containing
one-fifth of the total global population. After the formation of
SAARC in August 1980, several publications have been brought out by
many organisations, which by and large deal with issues like
economy, politics, administration and so on. This book comprises
three articles, besides an introductory note by the editors and an
epilogue on the important issues related to the bio-cultural
relations - is the first of its kind. The book discusses, in depth,
the biological and cultural affinities/linkages of the populations
of these countries. While the biological affinities of the
populations in respect of these countries have been traced back
from the pre-historic to the contemporary period, the cultural
linkages, with special reference to trade, religion, art,
architecture and so on have been documented from the ancient to the
medieval historical period of the region.
