In this book Father Muller looks at the question of the
relationship between the suffering of Jesus on the cross, the
salvation of humanity and the love of God. It is easy for people to
think that the crucifixion represents God's exaction of a penalty,
as though someone must suffer for sin --- either all of humanity or
Jesus, who suffers in their stead. Rather than seeing this image of
an apparently vindictive God, Father Muller calls us to look at the
true meaning of the crucifixion within the context of a merciful
and loving Father concerned more with the salvation of his children
than with their punishment.
