Ken Chappell MBE, Executive Director of the Society of Ploughmen,
with over thirty years of championship ploughing, was British
vintage champion in 1997 and 1999 and European vintage champion in
1998. He demonstrates the use of the mounted plough, including the
opening, ploughing and the finish. Michael Watkins applies his
skills to the trailed plough, again showing all the key elements of
a competition plot. Michael won the British National Vintage
Ploughing championship at his first attempt in 1998. Beside the
specially filmed plots, the programme includes major sections on
how to identify and correct ploughing faults as well as the basic
settings and adjustments of vintage ploughs. The video has been
directed and scripted by Brian Bell MBE, Britain's most experienced
author of farm machinery books and videos. The programme is
narrated by David Chappell, twice British conventional ploughing
champion and an experienced judge of ploughing matches. David also
acts as guide to the good and bad practices seen in a local vintage
ploughing competition.
