Til Divorce Do Us Part is a novel based upon a divorced father
(Michael Watts Sr.) who has a very turbulent relationship with his
ex-wife (Anne Watts), who is the mother of his two children. Anne
is a constant thorn in her ex-husband's side. She is a scorned
woman who feels that she has an axe to grind with her ex-husband in
spite of his being a great father to to their children. He
faithfully adheres to all of his responsibilities as it involves
his role as a non-custodial parent, i.e., he always pays his child
support on time, he has regular (frequent) visitation periods with
his children and he is always there for them whenever they need
him. Hence, he is actively and positively involved in their lives.
Nevertheless, that is not good enough for Anne, as she harbors
ill-will toward Michael as a result of their rocky ten-year long
marriage, which wrecked Michael emotionally and placed him in the
poor house. Anne does everything in her power to make Michael's
post-divorce live miserable. After Michael decides to move on with
his life when he once again fell in love and found a new life
(Carla Thompson), all hell breaks loose. At that point, Anne
launches an all out assault on her ex-husband. It was became
obvious that she no longer wants him, and she does not want Carla
to have him either. During Michael and Carla's marriage, Anne does
everything in her power to drive a wedge between the new Mr. &
Mrs. Watts. Anne uses Michael's love for his children as lethal
weapon against him. Michael is the antithesis of a deadbeat dad (to
his own detriment) as he altruistically places his children's
health and welfare above that of his own.
