19th century, was a very productive one. This volume introduces the
family and its three most famous members: Johann Heinrich Tischbein
the Elder, a protagonist of early classicism in Germany; Johann
Friedrich August Tischbein, one of the most sought-after
portraitists of his time; and Johann Friedrich August Tischbein,
whose interests focused on ancient Greek and Roman art, and who is
most famous for his portrait of Goethe in the Campagna, Italy.
