The notions of Islam that are prevalent in the public imagination
are founded and shaped by public discourse itself. This study
examines the process by which perceptions of Islam are constructed
using the methods of lexical semantics, discourse analysis, and
corpus linguistics. This specific combination of methods
illustrates the unique textual and discursive potentials of
contemporary linguistics.
