originated and describes the various types of machinery and
equipment used in power stations up to the end of the nineteenth
century, by which point the steam turbine and three-phase turbo
alternator became more commonly employed. The text is also
accompanied by engravings and photographs of Victorian power
stations and equipment. This book will be of value to anyone with
an interest in the history of public electricity supply.
