Grace Andrews first met brothers Albie and Ray Rodway in her early
20s while holidaying alone in Corfu. More than two decades on,
Grace and Albie unexpectedly run into each other again at a hotel
in London. Remembering old feelings from the holiday, they become a
couple and within six months get married. The play opens on the
afternoon of their wedding when Albie has over-indulged on
champagne and Ray, his best man, is helping him up the stairs to
his Manchester flat. Grace's tactless and interfering mother, Rose,
observes proceedings with an ever-critical eye. Between Albie's
drunkenness and Rose's barbed commentary, not to mention the
frequent phone calls from mysterious women, Grace finds an ally in
reliable, good-natured family man Ray. When he produces an old
photograph from the Corfu holiday, however, it soon transpires that
the man Grace first fell in love with is not the man she thought he
was.
