Samuel Lyman Atwood Marshall (1900-1977) was a chief U.S. Army
combat historian during World War II and the Korean War. He
authored some 30 books about warfare, including Pork Chop Hill: The
American Fighting Man in Action, which was made into a film of the
same name. Island Victory is the "story of the combat experiences
of certain units of the 7th Infantry Division in the battle for the
capture of Kwajalein the southernmost and largest island in the
Marshall Islands]" written from "the words of all men who fought
and were not killed or badly wounded in the action."
