This book examines the social and economic conditions in Brazil,
when the military came to power, implanting an economic model for
rapid development, which resulted in a severe increase in hunger
and poverty. The slow retreat of the military regime from the state
apparatus and the rise of civil society reacting to declining
living conditions led to the articulation of the 'Movement Against
Hunger' and the foundation of the National Food Security Council.
