Individual Psychology, a movement pioneered by Alfred Adler around the turn of the (20th) century, has gradually claimed its place as an established school of psychotherapy and counseling. However, while there is a fairly steady stream of literature focused on the clarification of concepts, their application to a practice model, or efforts to conform principles to the latest edition of the DSM, relatively little work has been done in the promotion of research. There has been little effort devoted to agreement on standard definitions of the concepts, to methods of operationalizing the concepts, and to methods of measuring them. The proposed volume will fill this gap.
This edited collection presents a grouping of original, classic, and recent papers, drawn primarily from "The International Journal of Individual" "Psychology, the Journal of Individual Psychology and Individual Psychology," The editors aim to present a coherent collection of articles that clearly state theoriginal conceptions of the ideas of Individual Psychology and recent clarifications. Although most of these are focused on the elaboration of a practice model, rather than on a research model, they present a clear statement of the concepts addressed, and will offer researchers, scholars, and educators a solid base from which to expand their research and writing. This book presents in a single volume a coherent collection of articles that will stimulate and continue a dialogue regarding clarification of fundamental concepts and how to make them more amenable to research.
