First published in 1881, The Six Scripts; or, The Principles of
Chinese Writing was an English translation by L. C. Hopkins
(1854-1952) of Tai T'ung's Liu Shu Ku. Following Hopkins' death, a
facsimile of the original translation was printed in 1954 by the
Cambridge University Press, together with a memoir of the
translator's life by W. Perceval Yetts and corrections and
additions to the text. It is that version which is reissued here.
