English summary: This volume comprises a total of eighteen contributions that were mainly presented in the form of lectures or on posters in the context of the symposium of the same name (careers in research and development - conditions and prospects against the background of the interaction between the institution and the individual). The symposium was held between 2011 and 2013 at the University of Furtwangen on behalf of the STAFF research project, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union's European Social Fund.
