Obeste is the story of a young girl searching for freedom and
escape from her abusive family. As a teenager, Sissy Weather's
parents and older brother, who are morbidly obese, force her two
work to support the family, take care of all the domestic chores,
mentally, physically, and sexually abuse her, forcing her into
child-prostitution. As we read, Sissy begins to make her own
friends and judgments about the life she is living. She begins to
understand things are not right. It is not a pretty tale, but is
timely. The story addresses the largely ignored international and
growing domestic crisis of women and children forced into the sex
trade. It also addresses the health crisis facing the United
States, the rising number of morbidly obese children and adults.
