Originally published in 1987. This book examines the growth of
pastoral care and the pastoral curriculum, and innovations in
vocational education in schools. These two major developments are
considered in relation to the guidance and counselling movement
whose impact on education over the preceding twenty-five years was
considerable. The concept of person-centred learning grew out of
this movement and with it many of the liberalising changes in
education. This is a fascinating look at this area from a time when
the whole nature and direction of schooling in the UK was about to
change.
