This is an autobiography of the life of Delmas Levi Gay (1939-2015)
This is a story of love, loss, family and peaches. It is the story
of our family.
This textbook guides readers through their first steps into the
challenging world of mimicking human vision with computational
tools and techniques pertaining to the field of image processing
and analysis. While today's theoretical and applied processing and
analysis of images meet with challenging and complex problems, this
primer is confined to a much simpler, albeit critical, collection
of image-to-image transformations, including image normalisation,
enhancement, and filtering. It serves as an introduction to
beginners, a refresher for undergraduate and graduate students, as
well as engineers and computer scientists confronted with a problem
to solve in computer vision. The book covers basic image
processing/computer vision pipeline techniques, which are widely
used in today's computer vision, computer graphics, and image
processing, giving the readers enough knowledge to successfully
tackle a wide range of applied problems.

This book addresses central questions regarding parental
involvement across European educational systems; exploring the
commonalities and differences across European countries and the
extent to which current policy and practice pertaining to parental
involvement is inclusive of diversity. Adopting an
interdisciplinary approach that draws from the fields of education,
sociology and psychology, it presents a description of the policy
context and empirical research on critical perspectives relating to
parental involvement. Comprising a rich varied cross-section of
national experiences from eleven European countries and the
contexts surrounding them, case studies provide insights into
parental involvement across Europe and identify challenges in the
field. This volume's in-depth approach and comprehensive
interrogation of parental involvement across European education
systems make it an ideal resource for parents, teachers and
academics, researchers and post-graduate students in the fields of
education policy and comparative education, as well as teacher
educators and policy makers.
This book addresses the need for theological reflection on
"uncivil" disobedience. Existing scholarship in the area of
theology and politics mostly treats church-state relations
theoretically, with studies supporting non-violent resistance and
in other ways largely assuming traditional forms of governance and
standard means of protest, without paying attention to post-modern
political and other philosophies. Recent eruptions of uncivil
disobedience, oftentimes involving violence, like we have seen with
Antifa, Black Lives Matter protests, the storming of the U.S.
Capitol Building on January 6th, and in the actions of a variety of
other right wing, leftist, and religious groups, all assume new
ways of protesting, new forms of organizing, and are often informed
by post-modern forms of philosophical support. These new political
dynamics present an opportunity for theologians to produce
scholarship in response. After establishing philosophical
underpinnings related to uncivilly disobedient action, the
contributors cover traditional historical and theological responses
to political unrest as foundation for considering or evaluating
attempts to address theologically present-day manifestations of
uncivil disobedience.

'The Cuban people hold a special place in the hearts of the people
of Africa. The Cuban internationalists have made a contribution to
African independence, freedom, and justice, unparalleled for its
principled and selfless character.' As Nelson Mandela states, Cuba
was a key participant in the struggle for the independence of
African countries during the Cold War and the definitive ousting of
colonialism from the continent. Beyond the military interventions
that played a decisive role in shaping African political history,
there were many-sided engagements between the island and the
continent. Cuba and Africa, 1959-1994 is the story of tens of
thousands of individuals who crossed the Atlantic as doctors,
scientists, soldiers, students and artists. Each chapter presents a
case study - from Algeria to Angola, from Equatorial Guinea to the
Congo - and shows how much of the encounter between Cuba and Africa
took place in non-militaristic fields: humanitarian and medical,
scientific and educational, cultural and artistic. The historical
experience and the legacies documented in this book speak to the
major ideologies that shaped the colonial and postcolonial world,
including internationalism, developmentalism and South-South
cooperation. Approaching African-Cuban relations from a
multiplicity of angles, this collection will appeal to an equally
wide range of readers, from scholars in black Atlantic studies to
cultural theorists and general readers with an interest in
contemporary African history.
Daleside, in the Gauteng Province, once had a predominantly white
population and is isolated in the industrial outer suburbs of
Johannesburg. Its separation has resulted in Daleside's residents
becoming increasingly inward-facing, and in the space of a decade
it has become an isolated ghost town with a dwindling population
consisting of mostly mine workers and smallholders. Commissioned by
Rubis Mecenat through their Of Soul and Joy programme, the
resulting photographs provide a counterpoint-Clement-Delmas's
images show dignified figures whose dreams are at odds with reality
whereas Sobekwa's landscape portraits show no such escapism.
Looking beyond the deep-seated Black/white binary, they depict the
poverty afflicting Black and white residents alike as forgotten
members of society stuck in a dead end. Contrary to his
expectations of what he might find there, Sobekwa came face to face
with the reality of Black and white residents experiencing the same
poverty out of eyeshot of the tightly-guarded houses of the
wealthy. In Daleside: Static Dreams, the images by each
photographer are presented alongside each other in a foldout book
so they can be read individually or as pairs.

images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

As we move towards a more global legal community, often with accompanying injustice and violence, Mireille Delmas-Marty demonstrates an urgent need to reconstruct the national and international legal landscapes. She argues that legal reasoning can be applied to concepts such as human rights for European citizens in the new world order. The book will be of interest to all comparative European lawyers, and to social scientists and legal theorists grappling with contemporary issues in legal pluralism and globalization.

The analysis of polar ice cores has proven to be very instructive
about past environmental conditions on the time scale of several
climatic cycles, and recent drilling operations have provided
information of great value for global change issues.
The book presents the most recent data extracted from Greenland ice
cores and surface experiments and compares them with former
Antarctic results. It contains background articles, original
contributions and group reports of interest to scientists,
climatologists, atmospheric chemists, and glaciologists involved in
global change research.
As we move towards a more global legal community, often with
accompanying injustice and violence, Mireille Delmas-Marty
demonstrates that there is an urgent need to reconstruct the
national and international legal landscapes. Legal reasoning can be
applied to concepts such as human rights for European citizens in
the new world order. In this book the author argues for a rule of
law that is common in every sense of the word: accessible to all
rather than reserved exclusively for officials, common to the
various legal sectors despite increasing specialization, and common
to diverse States. The book will be of interest to all comparative
European lawyers, and to social scientists and legal theorists
grappling with contemporary issues in legal pluralism and
globalization.
We live in an era of human-dominated ecosystems in which the demand
for environmental governance is rising rapidly. At the same time,
confidence in the capacity of governments to meet this demand is
waning. How can we address the resultant governance deficit and
achieve sustainable development? This book brings together
perspectives from economics, management, and political science in
order to identify innovative approaches to governance and bring
them to bear on environmental issues. The authors' analysis of
important cases demonstrates how governance systems need to fit
their specific setting and how effective policies can be developed
without relying exclusively on government. They argue that the
future of environmental policies lies in coordinated systems that
simultaneously engage actors located in the public sector, the
private sector, and civil society. Governance for the Environment
draws attention to cutting-edge questions for practitioners and
analysts interested in environmental governance.
What are our responsibilities in the face of injustice? How far
should we go to fight it? Many would argue that as long as a state
is nearly just, citizens have a moral duty to obey the law.
Proponents of civil disobedience generally hold that, given this
moral duty, a person needs a solid justification to break the law.
But activists from Henry David Thoreau and Mohandas Gandhi to the
Movement for Black Lives have long recognized that there are times
when, rather than having a duty to obey the law, we have a duty to
disobey it. Taking seriously the history of this activism, A Duty
to Resist wrestles with the problem of political obligation in real
world societies that harbor injustice. Candice Delmas argues that
the duty of justice, the principle of fairness, the Samaritan duty,
and political association impose responsibility to resist under
conditions of injustice. We must expand political obligation to
include a duty to resist unjust laws and social conditions even in
legitimate states. For Delmas, this duty to resist demands
principled disobedience, and such disobedience need not always be
civil. At times, covert, violent, evasive, or offensive acts of
lawbreaking can be justified, even required. Delmas defends the
viability and necessity of illegal assistance to undocumented
migrants, leaks of classified information, distributed
denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, sabotage, armed self-defense,
guerrilla art, and other modes of resistance. There are limits:
principle alone does not justify law breaking. But uncivil
disobedience can sometimes be not only permissible but required in
the effort to resist injustice.

The market for green products has expanded rapidly over the last
decade, but most consumers need something more than eco-benefits to
motivate their purchases. Magali A. Delmas and David Colgan argue
that many green products now offer the total package-a "green
bundle" that checks the environmental box, but also offers improved
performance, health benefits, savings, and status. To help
consumers cut through the noise and make their best decisions, we
need new strategies. The Green Bundle offers some of the best and
most effective communication techniques for pushing consumers in
the right direction. Framing product benefits to motivate behavior
is the key. Combining insights from sustainable business and
behavioral economics, Delmas and Colgan show managers how to lead
buyers from information to action. If you are looking to win over
the convenient consumer or understand how companies can create the
next tipping point in green consumption, this is the
research-based, practical guide for you.
