Following successive international legal verdicts, Bangladesh is
now an accredited maritime state. Possessing a spacious territorial
sea and an extended continental shelf, with a maritime zone almost
equalling its land borders, a 'window of opportunity' has opened
for the country to realise its developmental aspirations. Yet, it
faces numerous challenges, many of which are entwined. This book is
a detailed analysis of Bangladesh's maritime strategy. It charts
the country's maritime legacies, including disputes with both
Myanmar and India and analyses the contributions of the leadership
in the maritime territorial gains. The author examines Bangladesh's
need to consolidate these newly reclaimed gains, whilst exploring
the unremitting interest of major global power players in
maintaining maritime resource exploitation, navigation and
security. Finally, the author demonstrates how the country needs to
embrace the notional principles of sustainable development of its
ocean economy to utilize its resources and how it has since been
coming to grips with the emerging concept of "blue economy" to
enhance its enduring national development. The first systematic
study on Bangladesh's maritime policy and the country's importance
in the emerging geopolitical rivalry in the Indian Ocean, this book
will be of interest to academics in the field of South Asian and
Indian Ocean politics.

The whole work of the present investigation was carried out under
two separate parts, such as triple test cross and correlation,
path-coefficient and selection index. The additive and dominance
components were found to be highly significant in all the crosses
for all the characters. The cross 7(Bm1-20kr x L11-30kr) for seed
yield and yield components followed by cross 8 (Bm4-30kr x Bm3) and
cross 5(Bm1-25kr x L11-30kr) for some of the yield components may
be selected for further breeding research, as they showed moderate
to high heritability, additive-dominance inheritance and
non-significant epistasis. Correlation, path-coefficient and
selection index of thirteen parental lines shows that the lines
were genetically well differentiated as indicated by the analysis
of variance. In the discriminant function analysis, when individual
character was judged separately the highest and positive expected
genetic gain was found for SWPP followed by PWPP and PHFF. For
selection effective major emphasis should be given on PWPP, PHFF
and NBPMF. So, during selection NPdPP, PdWPP and NSPP also be
considered because they showed significant positive correlation and
positive direct effect on yield."
The use of pesticides for pest management in agriculture is great
concern due to negative impact on human health, wildlife and
environment. Farmers are dependent on synthetic pesticides for
controlling the pest in agriculture. IPM plays an important role
for effective pest management that are safe for human health and
environmentally viable. The different stakeholders' showed positive
attitudes towards IPM technology in agriculture. IPM technologies
such as sex pheromone trap, bio-control agent and botanical
pesticides are socially acceptable and environmental friendly. Lack
of farmers knowledge and awareness of consumers are main barrier
for dissemination IPM technology. However, raw materials of
botanical pesticides are available that can motivate the farmers
for adoption of IPM technology. Community based IPM approach is
more sustainable and effective for pest management in agriculture.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the use of
social networking sites (SNSs) for marketing of academic library
services. Specifically the objectives are to: explore the use of
SNSs by academic libraries, investigate the perceptions of academic
librarians towards marketing of library services through SNSs, and
determine the predictors that may influence users' engagement in
the electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) via SNSs. This study employs
the qualitative and quantitative approach. It is conducted
sequentially in three phases. First, the priority is to explore the
social networking sites (SNSs) used by the academic libraries in
Malaysia by means of web analysis of academic library websites and
library SNSs pages. The second phase involves structured interviews
to investigate the perceptions of academic librarians on the use of
SNSs for marketing of academic library services. Finally, the third
phase focuses on quantitative method through a survey to determine
the predictors that influence user's engagement in electronic
word-of-mouth (eWOM) through SNSs.

Prolonged stress has long been shown to have major effects on the
development of both type of diabetes mellitus, Type 1 and Type 2.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by
the immune system attacking self-antigens. There is a failure or
breakdown in immunological tolerance to allow this to happen.
Prolonged physical or emotional stress can activate the
hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to induce production of
the stress hormone glucocorticoid, causing abrupt thymus involution
and result in escape of autoreactive T- cells. Though regulatory
T-cells (Treg) are present in the circulation, they are unable to
suppress the autoreative T-cells from initiating the destruction of
-cells and the subsequent development of Type 1 diabetes. Stress
also causes metabolic disturbances, including altered hepatic
glucose metabolism, increased peripheral insulin resistance and
hyperglycemia. Glucocorticoid is the potential contributor to the
chronic hyperglycemia that results in insulin resistance and -cell
dysfunction via the generation of oxidative stress which ultimately
leads to the development of Type 2 diabetes."
This book originates from the author's PhD research on the topic,
"The Impact of Decentralisation on Development, with Special
Reference to the Experience of Bangladesh Since 1982." The research
observes that many developing countries have suffered in the past
from their policy of over-centralisation in development. In recent
time, many countries have attempted to reverse this trend through
policy of decentralisation to overcome institutional weaknesses,
enable development to be administered at the local level, and bring
greater popular participation in local and rural development.
Democratic structures have been prescribed as means of
accountability. Over centralisation was a key feature of
administration before independence of Bangladesh, and this
continued for years after the independence in 1971. A major change
in local and rural development came through the decentralisation
policy of 1982 to increase authority of a vital local government
unit, the "Upazila Administration" for ensuring delivery of basic
needs services to people. But without parallel reforms in other
levels of local government, decentralisation has not been
altogether effective.

decay of turbulence and MHD turbulence before the final period.
In the context of global food security, ensuring sustainable
agricultural production is a major concern. It's a vital issue in
those countries like Bangladesh, where agriculture acts as a
prevailing sector for national economy. Around 80% of the total
population living in the rural areas of Bangladesh, are engaged in
different agricultural activities for the sake of their livelihood.
But in the current era, this sector is passing through some
uncertainties due to the concurrent climate change. It has been
well recognized that, due to climate change, Khulna district, one
of the largest south west coastal regions of Bangladesh would be
the worst victimized cities over the whole world. Besides
fisheries, agriculture is the primary occupation in this coastal
area. For reduction of fish production, people who were engaged
with fisheries are now changing their livelihood to agriculture. At
the micro scale, local farmers are experiencing the losses due to
the infrequent abnormal changes of climatic parameters specially
the temperature and precipitation. Through this study, an attempt
was taken to explore the local evidence of climatic variability as
well as its impact on crop production.
