Nonlinear and Adaptive Control with Applications (Hardcover, 2008 ed.): Alessandro Astolfi, Dimitrios Karagiannis, Romeo Ortega Nonlinear and Adaptive Control with Applications (Hardcover, 2008 ed.)
Alessandro Astolfi, Dimitrios Karagiannis, Romeo Ortega
R4,406 Discovery Miles 44 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Nonlinear and Adaptive Control with Applications provides a detailed treatment of the design of robust adaptive controllers for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. The authors employ a new tool based on the ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. Departing, in part, from the Lyapunov-function approach of classical control, new algorithms are delivered for the construction of robust asymptotically-stabilising and adaptive control laws for nonlinear systems. The methods proposed lead to modular schemes. These algorithms cater for nonlinear systems with both parametric and dynamic uncertainties. This innovative strategy is illustrated with several examples and case studies from real applications. Power converters, electrical machines, mechanical systems, autonomous aircraft and computer vision are among the practical systems dealt with. Researchers working on adaptive and nonlinear control theory or on control applications will find this monograph of conspicuous interest while graduate students in control systems and control engineers working with electrical, mechanical or electromechanical systems can also gain much insight and assistance from the methods and algorithms detailed.

This book is a tribute to Prof. Alberto Isidori on the occasion of his 65th birthday. Prof. Isidori's proli?c, pioneering and high-impact research activity has spanned over 35 years. Throughout his career, Prof. Isidori has developed ground-breaking results, has initiated researchdirections and has contributed towardsthe foundationofnonlinear controltheory. In addition, his dedication to explain intricate issues and di?cult concepts in a simple and rigorous way and to motivate young researchers has been instrumental to the intellectual growth of the nonlinear control community worldwide. The volume collects 27 contributions written by a total of 52 researchers. The principal author of each contribution has been selected among the - searchers who have worked with Prof. Isidori, have in?uenced his research activity, or have had the privilege and honour of being his PhD students. The contributions address a signi?cant number of control topics, including th- retical issues, advanced applications, emerging control directions and tutorial works. The diversity of the areas covered, the number of contributors and their international standing provide evidence of the impact of Prof. Isidori in the control and systems theory communities. The book has been divided into six parts: System Analysis, Optimization Methods, Feedback Design, Regulation, Geometric Methods and Asymptotic Analysis, re?ecting important control areas which have been strongly in- enced and, in some cases, pioneered by Prof. Isidori.

This book, published in honor of Professor Laurent Praly on the occasion of his 65th birthday, explores the responses of some leading international authorities to new challenges in nonlinear and adaptive control. The mitigation of the effects of uncertainty and nonlinearity - ubiquitous features of real-world engineering and natural systems - on closed-loop stability and robustness being of crucial importance, the contributions report the latest research into overcoming these difficulties in: autonomous systems; reset control systems; multiple-input-multiple-output nonlinear systems; input delays; partial differential equations; population games; and data-driven control. Trends in Nonlinear and Adaptive Control presents research inspired by and related to Professor Praly's lifetime of contributions to control theory and is a valuable addition to the literature of advanced control.

The authors here provide a detailed treatment of the design of robust adaptive controllers for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. They employ a new tool based on the ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. New algorithms are delivered for the construction of robust asymptotically-stabilizing and adaptive control laws for nonlinear systems. The methods proposed lead to modular schemes that are easier to tune than their counterparts obtained from Lyapunov redesign.

Nonlinear Model Reduction by Moment Matching (Paperback): Giordano Scarciotti, Alessandro Astolfi Nonlinear Model Reduction by Moment Matching (Paperback)
Giordano Scarciotti, Alessandro Astolfi
R2,184 Discovery Miles 21 840 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Reduced order models, or model reduction, have been used in many technologically advanced areas to ensure the associated complicated mathematical models remain computable. For instance, reduced order models are used to simulate weather forecast models and in the design of very large scale integrated circuits and networked dynamical systems. For linear systems, the model reduction problem has been addressed from several perspectives and a comprehensive theory exists. Although many results and efforts have been made, at present there is no complete theory of model reduction for nonlinear systems or, at least, not as complete as the theory developed for linear systems. This monograph presents, in a uniform and complete fashion, moment matching techniques for nonlinear systems. This includes extensive sections on nonlinear time-delay systems; moment matching from input/output data and the limitations of the characterization of moment based on a signal generator described by differential equations. Each section is enriched with examples and is concluded with extensive bibliographical notes. This monograph provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction into model reduction for researchers and students working on non-linear systems.
