Translation, interpreting and other forms of communication support within public sector settings constitute a field which deals, quite literally, with matters of life and death. Overshadowed for many years by interpreting and translating in other domains, public sector interpreting and translating has received growing attention in recent years, with increasingly mobile populations and human rights, diversity and equality legislation shining the spotlight on the need for quality provision across an increasing range and volume of activities. Interpreting and Translating in Public Service Settings offers a collection of analytically-grounded essays that provide new insights into the reality of the interaction in public sector settings and into the roles and positioning of the participants by challenging existing models and paradigms. Issues of local need, but with global resonance, are addressed, and current reality is set against plans for the future. The triad of participants (interpreter/translator, public sector professional and client) is investigated, as are aspects of pedagogy, policy and practice. Empirical data supports the study of topics related to written, spoken and signed activities in a variety of professional settings. Bringing together academics and practitioners from different countries in order to explore the multidisciplinary dimension of the subject, this collection should serve as a valuable reference tool, not only for academics and students of public sector interpreting and translating, but also for practising linguists, providers of language services and policy makers.

The following stories are life experiences in the paranormal. Specifically my spirit encounters. Since the age of 5, spirit entities and ghostly apparitions have made it their job to make their presence known to me and other members of my family. These short stories are only a few of many instances where spirit activities have injected themselves into my life. The stories take place in various locations, but the common denominator is always me. The settings for these encounters include my childhood home, my family home, and the family owned cabin by the lake. The stories begin with a sting from a black wasp. That was the first time I died. For me, this event spurred many strange and curious encounters with the spirit world that have not stopped, even today. There are a lot of encounters to tell, but I selected these ten to start-off the series of short story books I plan to follow with. They all are instances and encounters individual unto themselves. So sit back, grab a talisman of your choice and enjoy.
'Dear Damian Lewis, I have seen all your television series and really admire your work. I especially liked you in Band of Brothers, and think you're a very good actor. It would be wonderful if we ever had the chance to meet up, perhaps at a social function?' Love, Becky x After watching Band of Brothers on television Ruby Reed develops a crush on the actor Damian Lewis and becomes convinced that it is their destiny to meet. She enlists the reluctant help of TV Documentary Producer, Jack Green, and her hapless friend Sally. ".... so I am going to write something and invite Damian Lewis to be in it". "Ah!" said Jack simply. She creates her alter ego, Becky, who tells the story through her eyes. (It then becomes a screenplay within a story and a film within a book.) Becky imagines a letter from Damian Lewis; 'Dear Becky, I was thrilled to get your letter and thank you for your comments about my work. I am passing your area of East Sheen and may well drop by if you say it is ok. Damian. Kiss. P.S. Is it ok if I wear my World War Two uniform?' 'Your book sounds hilarious' Toby Young, Author How to Lose Friends and Alienate People '****ing excellent' Jimmy McGovern, Screenwriter extraordinaire creator of The Street.
