Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This thesis studies collider phenomenology of physics beyond the
Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It also explores
in detail advanced topics related to Higgs boson and supersymmetry
- one of the most exciting and well-motivated streams in particle
physics. In particular, it finds a very large enhancement of
multiple Higgs boson production in vector-boson scattering when
Higgs couplings to gauge bosons differ from those predicted by the
Standard Model. The thesis demonstrates that due to the loss of
unitarity, the very large enhancement for triple Higgs boson
production takes place. This is a truly novel finding. The thesis
also studies the effects of supersymmetric partners of top and
bottom quarks on the Higgs production and decay at the LHC,
pointing for the first time to non-universal alterations for two
main production processes of the Higgs boson at the LHC-vector
boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion. Continuing the exploration of
Higgs boson and supersymmetry at the LHC, the thesis extends
existing experimental analysis and shows that for a single decay
channel the mass of the top quark superpartner below 175 GeV can be
completely excluded, which in turn excludes electroweak
baryogenesis in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model. This is a major
new finding for the HEP community. This thesis is very clearly
written and the introduction and conclusions are accessible to a
wide spectrum of readers.

The field of Games is rapidly expanding, prompting institutions
throughout the world to create game development programs and
courses focusing on educational games. As a result, games have also
become a hot topic in the area of educational technology research.
This increased interest is due to the technological advancement of
digital games and the fact that a new, digital generation is
emerging with a strong gaming background. Games: Purpose and
Potential in Education focuses on the issues of incorporating games
into education and instructional design. Ideas of identity
development, gender diversity, motivation, and integrating
instructional design within game development are addressed since
each of these areas is important in the field of instructional
design and can have a significant impact on learning. This volume
brings together leading experts, researchers, and instructors in
the field of gaming and explores current topics in gaming and
simulations, available resources, and the future of the field.
'A brilliant expose' - Danny Dorling Covid-19 has exposed the
limits of a neoliberal public health orthodoxy. But instead of
imagining radical change, the left is stuck in a rearguard action
focused on defending the NHS from the wrecking ball of
privatisation. Public health expert Christopher Thomas argues that
we must emerge from Covid-19 on the offensive - with a bold, new
vision for our health and care. He maps out five new frontiers for
public health and imagines how we can move beyond safeguarding what
we have to a radical expansion of the principles put forward by
Aneurin Bevan, the founder of the NHS, over 70 years ago. Beyond
recalibrating our approach to healthcare services, his blueprint
includes a fundamental redesign of our economy through Public
Health Net Zero; a bold new universal public health service fit to
address the real causes of ill health; and a major recalibration in
the efforts against the epidemiological reality of an era of
pandemics.

In May 1986 a two-day workshop on Physical Processes in Comets,
Stars and Active Galaxies was held at the Ringberg Castle near Lake
Tegernsee, and this rather unusml. l collection of topics needs a
few words of explanation. When we first thought of organizing a
workshop on such a large variety of astrophysical objects our main
motivation was to honor Rudolf Kippenhahn and Hermann Ulrich
Schmidt on the occasion of their 60th birthdays, and we planned to
cover at least a fraction of their fields of active research. We
then realized immediately that despite the fact that the objects
are so different, the physical processes involved are very much the
same, and that it is this aspect of astrophysics which governed the
scientific lives of both of our distinguished colleagues and
friends and allowed them to make major contributions to all those
fields. Apparently this viewpoint was shared by many colleagues and
it was therefore not surprising that in response to our invitation
everybody who had been invited agreed to come and to present a
talk. The workshop then turned out to be a real success. In
contrast to highly specialized conferences, fundamental problems as
well as very recent devel opments were discussed and the
participants appreciated the opportunity to exchange ideas."
Provide open data, balance decisions and initiatives, and create
equitable policies. Smart communities don't wait for someone to
deem them smart; they take action. State and local governments
worldwide have taken that first step using geographic information
system (GIS) technology. Applying GIS to planning and urban design,
public works operations, and racial equity and social justice has
helped meet citizens' needs and improve government operations. And
with advancements in smart technology, location intelligence for
state and local governments is not just for GIS specialists. More
informed, data-driven decisions lead to improved outcomes that can
be shared and replicated in other communities, helping citizens and
government collaborate for the common good. Building a Smarter
Community: GIS for State and Local Government shows how government
leaders in cities, counties, and states have applied GIS for
improved planning, operations, and civic inclusion. In this
collection of case studies and guidance to get started, learn how

London's Spitalfields Market was the location of one of the city's
largest archaeological excavations, carried out by MOLA between
1991 and 2007. This book presents the archaeological and
bioarchaeological evidence for Roman activity here, to the
north-east of the urban settlement and the site of a series of
burial grounds on the east side of Ermine Street. Burial began here
c AD 120 and continued into the 4th century AD. Excavation revealed
a number of ditched enclosures, some used for the interment of 169
inhumations and five cremation burials, some for other purposes.
Among the early burials men outnumbered women by five to one, but
by the later 3rd and 4th centuries AD a more even sex ratio
prevailed. Subadults were well represented, with one area
apparently set aside for the burial of neonates and children. The
cemetery attracted some particularly wealthy 4th-century AD
burials, including at least two in stone sarcophagi, one of which
contained an inner, decorated, lead coffin enclosing a young woman.
She had been anointed with imported resins and buried in fine
clothing, with unusual glassware and jet items. Some burial rites
and grave goods are more familiar from Continental cemeteries,
emphasising the cosmopolitan and mobile nature of London's
population.
Religious belief was central to the lives - and deaths - of all
medieval Londoners. Religion was fully integrated into the social
and political order, providing the population with an understanding
of their place in the world and inspiring artists, architects and
craftspeople. Belief motivated progressive acts such as early forms
of social provision and medical care but was also used to justify
wars of conquest and the brutal repression of diversity.
Archaeology sheds light on many aspects of belief: from organised
religion, both Christianity and Judaism, to superstition or
witchcraft; places of worship from the smallest parish churches to
the great Cathedral of St Paul; tiny objects of personal devotion
to entire monastic landscapes. Monasteries include communities cut
off from the world, hospitals providing for London's poor or the
headquarters of military religious orders behind the Crusades.
Cemetery excavations reveal how Londoners responded to mortality
both individually and together in the face of catastrophes such as
the Black Death, while the events of the Reformation dramatically
transformed both institutions and beliefs. This fully illustrated
book provides an introduction to the evidence of belief from the
Museum of London's archaeological excavations in the capital, with
a particular focus on the programme of work, supported by English
Heritage, on the sites of many of London's monasteries.
The field of games is a rapidly expanding field. In many
institutions throughout the world, an explosion of growth has been
seen in the creation of game development programs as well as
courses focusing on educational games. Games have also become a hot
topic in the area of educational technology research. The expansion
of interest in educational gaming is due to the increased
advancement of digital games and the fact that the Net or Digital
Generation has literally grown up surrounded by the idea of gaming.
Whether it be role play games, collectible card games, board games,
or computer and console video games, a new generation is emerging
with a strong gaming background.
Games: Purpose and Potential in Education focuses on issues of
how games can fit into education and instructional design. Some of
these specific topics relate the ideas of identity development,
gender diversity, motivation, and integrating instructional design
with game development. Each of these areas is important in the
field of instructional design and can have a large impact on
learning.
This volume brings together leading experts, researchers, and
instructors in the field of educational games and explores many of
the current topics in the field of educational games and
simulations, the future potential of the field, and resources
related to educational games and simulations.
How do leaders and innovators drive change and improvement?
Governments often depend on a geographic context for making major
decisions, sharing information, and expanding its operations. When
organizations face the need for change from a drastic event, such
as economic downturns or a pandemic, how do they maintain the
quality of their day-to-day operations while continuing to find
solutions to existing and new problems? Many governments and
professionals turn to geographic information systems (GIS). Using
GIS and location intelligence produces more informed, data-driven
decisions, which lead to improved outcomes. Measuring Up: The
Business Case for GIS, Volume 3 is a third book in the Measuring Up
series demonstrating how government agencies have embraced GIS as a
critical infrastructure in their processes. Through a collection of
all-new, updated, real-world stories, each chapter covers how GIS
helps organizations in saving time, saving money, avoiding cost,
increasing accuracy, improving productivity, increasing efficiency,
automating workflows, managing resources, and aiding in budgeting.
Readers can look to this new collection as a model for working
through their organization's new challenge or to understand the
business value of introducing GIS into their organization.
Measuring Up: The Business Case for GIS, Volume 3 explores how
organizations can continue to move forward using GIS as not just a
tool but necessary to the solution.
