Ekspolisieman George Ekermans sien hoe ’n meisie in ’n bakkie ingedwing
word en hy sit die voertuig onmiddellik agterna.
Die ontvoerder ontglip hom egter en al leidraad is ’n eienaardige goue
hangertjie wat die meisie laat val het.
Wanneer George in sy soeke na die meisie te naby aan die waarheid kom,

Na die ontstellende gebeure by die viering van sy ma terugkeer, vlug Josh van Liba af weg. Op soek na slaapplek dwaal hy en Charlie die misterieuse Geelwoud binne. Hier vind Josh tydelik geluk wanneer die kinders van die Nuwe Jerusalem hulle in hulle boomdorpie laat bly. En Jandja, die tienerleier van die groep, is 'n seun soos hy. Maar Josh weet Kalimbula brand. Hy moet iets doen. Dan is daar nog vrae: Het Njeri hom regtig verraai? En wat lê agter tannie Verona se obsessie met die Wafu-water?
Josh is ingehuldig as die nuwe koning van Kalimbula. Hy sukkel
sonder sy ma en met die idee van koning wees, maar met die
ondersteuning van Njeri en Ngandu begin hy moed kry. Silvia, sy ma,
is egter nie dood nie. Sy word deur haar eie suster op die plaas
aangehou. Sy slaag daarin om te ontsnap en probeer Kalimbula
bereik. Intussen maak 'n misterieuse kryger haar verskyning in
Kalimbula. Sy dra 'n donker verlede met haar saam en saai
verwoesting so ver soos sy gaan. Josh se koningskap word tot die
uiterste beproef. Hy vra die hulp van die geheimsinnige sifashama
met hul rooi mantels en diep stemme, maar nie een plan werk nie. Op
Ngandu se aandrang, besluit Josh om sy aartsvyand – Masjeba, die
bose heks – in die tronk te besoek. Masjeba gee hom antwoorde oor
die kryger en hoe om haar te verslaan, maar teen 'n prys. Intussen
versterk die professor sy magte. Maar waar in Silvia? Sal sy
Kalimbula bereik voor dit te laat is en alles om Josh in duie stort?
Josh (13) woon by sy tannie Verona en haar gesin op 'n plaas in OosAfrika nadat sy ma twee jaar gelede skielik verdwyn het. Op 'n dag daag 'n vreemdeling by die plaas op en probeer Josh ontvoer. Gelukkig red Doris, die huishulp, hom uit die kloue van die bose man. Sy vertel hom dat 'n groep mense sy bloed soek en dat hy moet vlug na 'n magiese geheime vallei, Kalimbula, waar hy veiliger sal wees. Hy moet die wyseman, Ngandu, in sy grot gaan spreek. Josh en Njeri, 'n kanniedood 15jarige meisie, se paaie kruis. Sy help hom om die wyseman te vind – en Josh word met 'n opdrag weggestuur: die opsporing van die goue kalbas. Josh weet dat al sy vrae beantwoord sal word wanneer hy die kalbas kry en hy pak die reis deur Kalimbula alleen aan. Hy ontmoet Masjeba, die heks, wat hom help om die legkaartstukkies van sy ma se verdwyning bymekaar te sit. Wanneer die kalbas uiteindelik oopgemaak word om die naam van die volgende troonopvolger te onthul, kry Josh die verrassing van sy lewe . . .
