Cooperative Optical Non-Linearity in a Blockaded Rydberg Ensemble (Hardcover, 2012 ed.): Jonathan D. Pritchard Cooperative Optical Non-Linearity in a Blockaded Rydberg Ensemble (Hardcover, 2012 ed.)
Jonathan D. Pritchard
R1,463 Discovery Miles 14 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This thesis describes the first demonstration of a cooperative optical non-linearity based on Rydberg excitation. Whereas in conventional non-linear optics the non-linearity arises directly from the interaction between light and matter, in a cooperative process it is mediated by dipole-dipole interactions between light-induced excitations. For excitation to high Rydberg states where the electron is only weakly bound, the dipole-dipole interactions are extremely large and long range, enabling an enormous enhancement of the non-linear effect. Consequently, cooperative non-linear optics using Rydberg excitations opens a new era for quantum optics enabling large single photon non-linearity to be accessible in free space for the first time. The thesis describes the theoretical underpinnings of the non- linear effect, the pioneering experimental results and implications for experiments in the single photon regime.

New Waves in Epistemology (Hardcover): D. Pritchard New Waves in Epistemology (Hardcover)
D. Pritchard; Contributions by Boudewijn Bruin; Edited by Vincent F Hendricks
R1,507 Discovery Miles 15 070 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the past thirty years epistemology has been one of the fastest moving disciplines in philosophy. The reason for the rapid advancement is partly due to the fact that various schools and movements inside epistemology have developed different answers to classical epistemological problems, and partly due to the fact that formal methods from logic, probability theory and computability have been utilized to deal with many of the same issues and used for applications outside traditional epistemology. "New Waves in Epistemology" reflects these changes by letting up-and-coming scholars describe the current trends as well as discussing the prospects for future development.

Work Motivation - Past, Present and Future (Paperback): Ruth Kanfer, Gilad Chen, Robert D. Pritchard Work Motivation - Past, Present and Future (Paperback)
Ruth Kanfer, Gilad Chen, Robert D. Pritchard
R1,838 Discovery Miles 18 380 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This edited volume in SIOP's Organizational Frontiers Series presents the current thinking and research on the important area of motivation.Work Motivation is a central issue in Industrial organizational psychology, human resource management and organizational behavior. In this volume the editors and authors show that motivation must be seen as a multi-level phenomenon where individual, group, organizational and cultural variables must be considered to truly understand it. The book adopts an overall framework that encompasses "internal" - from the person - forces and "external" - from the immediate and more distant environment - forces. It is destined to challenge scholars of organizations to give renewed emphasis and attention to advancing our understanding of motivation in work situations.

Evidence-Based Productivity Improvement - A Practical Guide to the Productivity Measurement and Enhancement System (ProMES)... Evidence-Based Productivity Improvement - A Practical Guide to the Productivity Measurement and Enhancement System (ProMES) (Paperback, New)
Robert D. Pritchard, Sallie J. Weaver, Elissa Ashwood
R1,194 Discovery Miles 11 940 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This new book explains the Productivity Measurement and Enhancement system (ProMES) and how it meets the criteria for an optimal measurement and feedback system. It summarizes all the research that has been done on productivity, mentioning other measurement systems, and gives detailed information on how to implement this one in organizations. This book will be of interest to behavioral science researchers and professionals who wish to learn more about the practical methods of measuring and improving organizational productivity.
