Series Information: Routledge International Studies in the Philosophy of Education
This important new book presents a 'dual strand' argument: Firstly,
it gives a comprehensive account of methods in philosophy of
education, with leading international figures in the field of
writing from a variety of methodological and epistemological
perspectives. Secondly, it examines their application in the 'real
world' of education, using the topical area of children's rights as
a basis for investigation. It will therefore be of interest to
philosophers and educationalists alike.
Reflecting the growing integration of the European Union, this
volume presents one of the results of an increasing cooperation
between the education departments of Berlin, Amsterdam and London
universities. The aim is to achieve a better understanding of the
cultural and socio-political differences of the educational
sciences and, more generally, the educational consequences and
possibilities of both globalizing and pluralist developments in
European countries. The areas covered include theoretical
discussions of educational developments in contemporary society,
education organization and policy, intercultural and integration
pedagogics, education for young children as well as higher
education.
Up to now European unification has primarily been considered a
matter of political and economic concern. Very little attention has
been paid to education and training, although many resolutions of
various treaties, especially regarding the labor market, would
remain ineffectual without any synchronization of the various
systems of education and training. Moreover, if popular support for
political and economic integration is to be secured, the citizens
of Europe, in Delors' words, must "genuinely have the feeling that
they are involved in this joint adventure (Europe)," whichwill be
achieved only through a better understanding of each other's
history and also an awareness of common European history and common
cultural traditions. This volume presents a selection of papers
given at a recent meeting, attended by representatives from about
thirty European countries who had come together to take stock after
Maastricht and to develop new perspectives for a future European
educational system.
In this book, Dieter Lenzen analyzes the world's three major
educational systems: the Continental-European, the Atlantic
(Anglo-American) and the East Asian. Distancing himself from the
current trend towards the economically driven Anglo-American system
of education, the author proposes an alternative model, "a
university of the world". Contents: * Three concepts of the
university in the globalization process * The dynamics of global
social systems * Global challenges in the post-secondary
educational sector as springboard for comparing systems *
Convergence and divergence: current system dynamics in the
post-secondary sector * Can there be fair chances in a world
university system? * Conclusion Target readers: * Theorists of
higher education * Policy makers of higher education *
Administrators of higher education * Social scientists The author:
Professor Dr. Dieter Lenzen is the president of Universitat
Hamburg, vice president of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) in
Germany and the German universities' spokesperson for the HRK.
Der Band fasst Beitrage zum 16. Kongress der Deutschen Gesellschaft
fur Erziehungswissenschaft zusammen.
identifizieren Qualitatsdefizite, formulieren darauf bezogen
Standards und beschreiben Prozesse, die im Endeffekt
Qualitatsstandards schaffen und sichern konnen.
Die in diesem Beiheft versammelten Beitrage diskutieren
erforderliche Entwicklungen in der Erziehungswissenschaft sowie
Forschungsperspektiven, die sich im Anschluss an die
Veroffentlichungen zur PISA-Studie ergeben."
Der Band verhandelt unter systemtheoretischer Perspektive die
Frage, inwieweit das Erziehungssystem eine sich wandelnde
Sonderstellung im Club der funktional differenzierten Systeme
einnimmt.
Wirtschaftssystem."
