Recent advances in eye tracking technology will allow for a
proliferation of new applications. Improvements in interactive
methods using eye movement and gaze control could result in faster
and more efficient human computer interfaces, benefitting users
with and without disabilities. Gaze Interaction and Applications of
Eye Tracking: Advances in Assistive Technologies focuses on
interactive communication and control tools based on gaze tracking,
including eye typing, computer control, and gaming, with special
attention to assistive technologies. For researchers and
practitioners interested in the applied use of gaze tracking, the
book offers instructions for building a basic eye tracker from
off-the-shelf components, gives practical hints on building
interactive applications, presents smooth and efficient interaction
techniques, and summarizes the results of effective research on
cutting edge gaze interaction applications.

Gunther, McGowan and Donegan draw on their own experiences and
those of others in the field, to explain the importance of
communication in school leadership. In focusing on the
communication process why it's critical for schools, and how it can
be executed well they make the case that communication must be a
primary emphasis for leaders, not an afterthought. In Strategic
Communications for School Leaders, the authors provide the insights
and skills necessary for understanding the role of communication in
educational leadership. They also lay the foundation for helping
leaders-and those that aspire to be-create and execute
communication plans that help to win the trust of an increasingly
skeptical public and provide a means to advocate for schools'
appropriate share of scarce resources. Topics addressed in the book
include the following: understanding the audiences and their
information channels; aligning the school leaders' messages with
their educational goals and values; telling stories and using
illustrative examples; delivering honest and credible messages
(including admitting mistakes); using technology intelligently and
appropriately; and creating and adhering to a communications plan.

In the last two decades, semiconductor quantum dots small
colloidal nanoparticles have garnered a great deal of scientific
interest because of their unique properties. Among nanomaterials,
CdTe holds special technological importance as the only known II VI
material that can form conventional p n junctions. This makes CdTe
very important for the development of novel optoelectronic devices
such as light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and lasers. Moreover,
the demand for water-compatible light emitters and the most common
biological buffers give CdTe quantum dots fields a veritable edge
in biolabeling and bioimaging.
Cadmium Telluride Quantum Dots: Advances and Applications
focuses on CdTe quantum dots and addresses their synthesis,
assembly, optical properties, and applications in biology and
medicine. It makes for a very informative reading for anyone
involved in nanotechnology and will also benefit those scientists
who are looking for a comprehensive account on the current state of
quantum dot related research.

When released in 2003, The Room, an obscure, self-financed
relationship drama by an eccentric self-taught filmmaker named
Tommy Wiseau, should have been completely forgotten. Yet nearly two
decades later, "the worst movie ever made"—as many a critic would
have it—has become the most popular cult film since The Rocky
Horror Picture Show. In You Are Tearing Me Apart, Lisa!,
contributors explore this priceless cultural artifact, offering
fans and film buffs critical insight into the movie's various
meanings, historical context, and place in the cult canon. Even if
by complete accident, The Room touches on many issues of modern
concern, including sincerity, authenticity, badness, artistic
value, gender relations, Americanness, Hollywood conventions,
masculinity, and even the meaning of life. Revealing the timeless,
infamous power of Wiseau's The Room, You Are Tearing Me Apart,
Lisa! is a deeply entertaining deconstruction of an original work
of all-American failure.

Why has India's astonishing economic growth not reached the people
at the bottom of its social and economic hierarchy? Travelling the
length and breadth of the subcontinent, this book shows how India's
'untouchables' and 'tribals' fit into the global economy. India's
Dalit and Adivasi communities make up a staggering one in
twenty-five people across the globe and yet they remain amongst the
most oppressed. Conceived in dialogue with economists, 'Ground Down
by Growth' reveals the impact of global capitalism on their lives.
It shows how capitalism entrenches, rather than erases, social
difference and has transformed traditional forms of identity-based
discrimination into new mechanisms of exploitation and oppression.
Through studies of the working poor, migrant labour, and the
conjugated oppression of caste, tribe, region, gender, and class
relations, the social inequalities generated by capitalism are
exposed.

The stories we tell of American beginnings typically emphasize
colonial triumph in the face of adversity. But the early years of
English settlement in America were characterized by catastrophe:
starvation, disease, extreme violence, ruinous ignorance, and
serial abandonment. Seasons of Misery offers a provocative
reexamination of the British colonies' chaotic and profoundly
unstable beginnings, placing crisis-both experiential and
existential-at the center of the story. At the outposts of a
fledgling empire and disconnected from the social order of their
home society, English settlers were both physically and
psychologically estranged from their European identities. They
could not control, or often even survive, the world they had
intended to possess. According to Kathleen Donegan, it was in this
cauldron of uncertainty that colonial identity was formed. Studying
the English settlements at Roanoke, Jamestown, Plymouth, and
Barbados, Donegan argues that catastrophe marked the threshold
between an old European identity and a new colonial identity, a
state of instability in which only fragments of Englishness could
survive amid the upheavals of the New World. This constant state of
crisis also produced the first distinctively colonial literature as
settlers attempted to process events that they could neither fully
absorb nor understand. Bringing a critical eye to settlers'
first-person accounts, Donegan applies a unique combination of
narrative history and literary analysis to trace how settlers used
a language of catastrophe to describe unprecedented circumstances,
witness unrecognizable selves, and report unaccountable events.
Seasons of Misery addresses both the stories that colonists told
about themselves and the stories that we have constructed in
hindsight about them. In doing so, it offers a new account of the
meaning of settlement history and the creation of colonial
identity.
