The Chief Periods of European History is about the birth of modern
Europe, tracing the history from the end of the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance into the modern era. The book contains six lectures
read in the University of Oxford in Trinity Term, 1885. It also
contains the essay "Greek Cities under Roman Rule," as an appendix.
