This volume gathers, analyses, discusses and evaluates results of
current research on arts and cultural education in Europe, focusing
on the challenges of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is an
increasingly characteristic feature of contemporary societies.
Groups with different ethnic, social or cultural backgrounds
coexist, interact and merge. The challenges of cultural diversity -
its innovative potential as well as tensions and conflicts - are
reflected in transnational discourses on education, culture,
democracy, and citizenship. Transcultural approaches, multicultural
education, and intercultural learning are key concepts. The same
challenges are reflected in arts and cultural education within and
outside schools, in teachers' and artists' training, cultural and
educational policies, and research. The thirteen chapters in this
book report on nine countries represented in the European Network
of Observatories in the Field of Arts and Cultural Education (ENO).
They showcase good practices in research and teaching, foster the
exchange of experiences, stimulate researchers and stakeholders and
give insights into their professional practices.
This peer-reviewed academic yearbook stems from the inaugural
meeting of the newly formed UNESCO UNITWIN network on Arts
Education Research for Cultural Diversity and Sustainable
Development, held at the National Institute of Education, Singapore
in April 2017. It presents international scholarly perspectives on
issues related to arts education and cultural diversity in terms
of: i) national and international policies; ii) terms, concepts and
vocabularies; iii) current and ongoing research; and iv) best
practices. The UNESCO UNITWIN is an arts education research think
tank that gathers and leverages original research and critical
commentaries on the arts and sustainable development from UNITWIN
member states and beyond (Australia, Canada, Colombia, Germany,
Hong Kong, Kenya, Korea, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan,
the Netherlands and the United States of America).
This book explores the potential of arts and cultural education to
contribute to on-going efforts to promote Education for Sustainable
Development (ESD) in line with UNESCO's conceptualizations of the
field. It builds on the experiences of arts educators working to
build sustainable futures and portrays new and innovative
approaches. Chapters comprise case studies that combine arts,
culture, sustainable thinking and practices. They also include
research from historical perspectives, evaluations of public policy
measures and offer theoretical approaches and methodologies. The
book unfolds the possible relationships between arts and cultural
education and Education for Sustainable Development.
The field of non-viral vector research has rapidly progressed since
the publication of the first edition. This new edition is expanded
to two separate volumes that contain in-depth discussions of
different non-viral approaches, including cationic liposomes and
polymers, naked DNA and various physical methods of delivery, as
well as a comprehensive coverage of the molecular biological
designs of the plasmid DNA for reduced toxicity, prolonged
expression and tissue or disease specific genes. New developments
such as the toxicity of the non-viral vectors and recent advances
in nucleic acid therapeutics are fully covered in these volumes.
The field of genetics is rapidly evolving, and new medical
breakthroughs are occurring as a result of advances in our
knowledge of genetics. Advances in Genetics continually publishes
important reviews of the broadest interest to geneticists and their
colleagues in affiliated disciplines.

Innovations in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology summarizes the state
of the art in nano-sized materials. The authors focus on innovation
aspects and highlight potentials for future developments and
applications in health care, including pharmaceutics, dentistry,
and cosmetics; information and communications; energy; and chemical
engineering. The chapters are written by leading researchers in
nanoscience, chemistry, pharmacy, biology, chemistry, physics,
engineering, medicine, and social science. The authors come from a
range of backgrounds including academia, industry, and national and
international laboratories around the world. This book is ideally
suited for researchers and students in chemistry, physics, biology,
engineering, materials science, and medicine and is a useful guide
for industrialists. It aims to provide inspiration for scientists,
new ideas for developers and innovators in industry, and guidelines
for toxicologists. It also provides guidelines for agencies and
government authorities to establish safe working conditions.
Building on earlier discourse, the current yearbook volume
continues to focus on questions of research in the field of
cultural and arts education from a global perspective. This year's
volume opens with a review of important contributions to the World
Summit in Arts Education held in Wildbad Kreuth, Germany in 2013.
It continues with the topics of evaluation, mapping and monitoring
introduced in the first volume. Theoretical and practical
applications of the key foundations of work in the International
Network for Research in Arts Education (INRAE) are also explored at
length. Most notably, new approaches aimed at linking arts
education to peace education and the application of these
approaches to education for sustainable development (ESD) are
introduced and explored.
