Four-part BBC drama series based on the novel by Robert Galbraith, aka J.K. Rowling.
In this instalment, troubled private detective Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) is approached by a young man who claims he witnessed a murder as a child. As he investigates and discovers the man's claims may be unreliable, Strike learns of a blackmail plot involving prominent politician Jasper Chilwell (Robert Glenister).
Strike's secretary Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) goes undercover to solve the case, but when Chiswell is found dead Strike and Robin are tasked with solving his murder.
Triple bill of horror movies. 'Hiding' (2012) stars Ana Villafañe
as a young woman attempting to begin a new life following the
brutal murder of her parents. Taken into the care of a witness
protection programme, a new identity is established for Jo
(Villafañe) in Montana and she leaves her home in New York and her
past life behind. Unfortunately, when a man known as Mr Ostrog
(Dean Armstrong) appears and begins to take an interest in her, Jo
could be forgiven for thinking that the protection programme has
failed to keep her identity safe from the man she is due to testify
against. In 'The Victim' (2011) Annie (Jennifer Blanc)'s camping
trip with her friend, Mary (Danielle Harris), goes disastrously
wrong when Mary is savagely attacked and Annie witnesses her
murder. As she flees through the woods from pursuers Harrison (Ryan
Honey) and Cooger (Denny Kirkwood), Annie comes across a small
cabin inhabited by the loner Kyle (Michael Biehn), but will he help
her or hinder her? 'Beneath the Dark' (2010) is a psychological
thriller from first-time director Chad Feehan. Driving through the
Mojave Desert on their way to the wedding of an old college friend,
Paul and Adrienne (Josh Stewart and Jamie-Lynn Sigler) stop for the
night at Roy's Motel. Confronted by a surreal atmosphere and their
equally strange hosts, Frank and Sandy (Chris Browning and Angela
Featherstone), Paul begins to feel uneasy about his new
surroundings and wonders what lies in store for them.

The first season of the drama series starring Jeremy Irons as
Rodrigo Borgia, the head of the powerful family that dominated
Italy in the Renaissance. When the Borgia family use their
influence to gain Rodrigo, the rising power within the family, the
position of Pope, perhaps even they are unprepared for the manner
in which their relative will abuse his position. As Pope Alexander
VI, Rodrigo sets about using his power to ruthlessly increase the
family's wealth and status, while committing almost every sin
imaginable. François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger and Lotte Verbeek

Routine denial and the downplaying of harm should have no place in
medicine but it is an institutional attitude and policy in the UK.
The Department of Health and the MHRA play politics with people's
lives. There is no doubt that the defence and underestimation of
past harm, allows the continuation of a system which will produce
more avoidable injury in the future. The author campaigns for drug
safety and a change in the system where no one is held accountable
and the victims are left to fend for themselves.

Direct Current (DC) transmission and distribution technologies have
evolved in recent years. They offer superior efficiency, current
carrying capacity, and response times as compared to conventional
AC systems. Further, substantial advantages are their natural
interface with many types of renewable energy resources, such as
photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems at
relatively high voltage, and compliance with consumer electronics
at lower voltages, say, within a household environment. One of the
core building blocks of DC-based technologies, especially at medium
voltage levels, is power electronic systems technology. This cannot
be emphasized enough as these units process, convert, and regulate
all DC power and provide intelligence and sensing as electric power
grids evolve. These advantages have led to a rise in the
utilization and applications of DC in modern power systems. This
includes high voltage DC transmission systems, DC distribution
grids, DC microgrids, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and
the maritime industry. However, there are still substantial
challenges to the operation of these systems. Examples include a
lack of standards for DC based power infrastructure and DC system
protection. This book presents the state of the art in medium
voltage DC systems research and development, covering grid
architecture, power converter design, transformers, control and
protection for both traditional and mobile DC applications such as
all-electric ships. This text, the first of its kind, provides
essential information for researchers and research-oriented
engineers working for academia, a manufacturer or utility, who wish
to broaden or update their knowledge of medium voltage DC systems
and associated equipment.
VIRUS DISEASES OF PLANTS VIRUS DISEASES OF PLANTS BY JOHN GRAINGER
PH. D., B. Sc. OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS LONDON HUMPHREY MILFORD 1934
PREFACE THE need for a small book upon the subject of Plant Virus
Diseases appeared during my teaching work at Leeds University and
in the County of Yorkshire. The study of this subject is, indeed,
developing rapidly, but it seemed that this was not sufficient
justification for with holding a simple text-book from the student
of Mycology or Plant Pathology. A comprehensive volume would be
inappropriate, as yet, and would have a limited use. The aim of
this book has therefore been to introduce the student to the
phenorrfcria associated with Virus Diseases, rather than to provide
him with descriptions of all known viroses it is typical rather
than complete. Many pitfalls aw r ait the new worker on Virus
Diseases, so it was decided to include descriptions of the various
items of technique in common use. The list of references at the end
of the volume will provide an introduction to the very extensive
literature on the subject of Plant Viruses. In its compilation,
accessibility and comprehensiveness o the papers quoted have been
constantly in mind. The references cited in the text follow the
general plan of the book, being representative, not exhaustive. It
is with great pleasure that I acknowledge my in debtedness to many
persons to my wife, for much con structive criticism and help, and
to Dr. J. Henderson Smith, of Rothamsted, who criticized the
manuscript in its early stages. Dr. J. Johnson, of Wisconsin
University, U. S. A., has helped in ways too numerous to mention,
and Prof. J. H. Priestley, of Leeds University, introduced me to
the study of VirusDiseases of Plants, and helped consider ably in
its prosecution. Many workers in Ireland, Holland, America,
Germany, and our own country have given written and verbal
communication of their results. The Oxford University Press has
throughout been most cour teous and helpful. J-G - June, 1933. J

A comprehensive overview of the activities of the British navy in
the Mediterranean from the earliest times until the present. This
book presents a comprehensive overview of the activities of the
British navy in the Mediterranean Sea from the earliest times until
the twentieth century. It traces developments from Anglo-Saxon
times, through the Crusades, and to the seventeenth century, when
the Barbary corsairs became a major problem. It outlines Britain's
involvement in the wars of the long eighteenth century, when
Britain obtained bases at Gibraltar, Minorca and Malta and
repeatedly defeated the French and Spanish navies. It examines the
navy's activities during the First and Second World Wars, when the
Mediterranean was again of crucial strategic significance and a
major theatre of war, and goes on toconsider Britain's withdrawal
from the Mediterranean in the later twentieth century. Throughout,
the book relates naval activity to patterns of trade, including the
rise and decline of the Levant Company, and to wider international
politics. JOHN D. GRAINGER is the author of numerous books for a
variety of publishers, including seven previously published books
for Boydell and Brewer, including The British Navy in the Baltic,
Dictionaryof British Naval Battles and The First Pacific War:
Britain and Russia, 1854-56.

Cyril Scott once described Percy Grainger as a `lovable eccentric'.
The Australian-American pianist, composer, ethnologist, and
aspiring `all-round man' was, however, more eccentric to his own
age than to ours. His views on the environment, food, the body,
participatory democracy, and sex all anticipated by several decades
views more typical of the mid-late twentieth century. Prolific as a
composer, performer, and recording artist, Grainger was an
indefatigable writer. This selection of forty-six essays about the
production, promotion, and propagation of music is drawn from his
over 150 public writings. Written between the turn of the century
and the early 1950s, these essays reveal Grainger's youthful
compositional plans, his ideas about piano technique, and his
enduring high regard for the music of Edvard Grieg, Frederick
Delius, and `Frankfurt Group' colleagues Cyril Scott, Roger
Quilter, and Henry Balfour Gardiner. Grainger on Music also pursues
his evolving thoughts about Nordic music, `Free Music',
instrumental usage, and his occasional suggestions for musical
development in Australia and the United States.
The Phoenicians have long been known for their trading, colonizing,
and seafaring skills, but their history has too often seemed to
stop short at the time of Alexander the Great. Alexander's
destruction of the city of Tyre, however, only marked a new stage
in Phoenician history, not its end. During the next three centuries
this numerically small people had to live in a violent world
dominated by Greeks and Macedonians. Their cities were destroyed,
their land was reduced in size, and then divided up among mutually
hostile kings. Yet they survived and enjoyed long periods of peace
in which they evidently prospered. This is the first full account
of Hellenistic Phoenicia. Within the basic chronological framework
of their political history, the study pursues the themes of trade
and economic history and the Hellenization of the Phoenicians'
culture. The adaptation of the Phoenicians to life in the
Hellenistic world shows a number of features common to that world
as a whole, but also some which are distinctive to the Phoenicians
themselves. A final chapter considers the changes in their role in
the world outside their homeland.
It is now 10 years since the first edition of Engineering Coatings
by Stan Grainger appeared. The success of that edition, and the
developments in the area since its publication make this new
edition a valuable addition
to the literature on the subject.
This new edition describes the many methods by which surface
coatings or surface modification can be carried out to delay
surface degradation and prolong the useful life of engineering
components. Since surface technology has advanced in many areas,
new techniques such as the newer thermal spray processes and laser
surfacing are now covered and the book has been expanded to include
more coverage on corrosion.
Major changes have also taken place in health and safety
legislation, and the sections covering health and safety have been
entirely revised as a result. Engineering Coatings with its breadth
of coverage and sound basis in
industrial practice is an invaluable guide to methods which have
the potential to save money in many industries concerned with wear,
corrosion, welding and thermal spraying of engineering components.
This book analyses the complex relationship between directness,
indirectness, politeness and impoliteness. Definitions of
directness and indirectness are discussed and problematised from a
discursive theoretical perspective.
