images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

'This is an impressive book that will be of wide interest to adult
educators everywhere. Many of the book's contributors work at the
University of Technology, Sydney - surely the world's pre-eminent
institution for the study of adult learning, and the most open and
generous location for debate. Its virtues are the book's.' Alan
Tuckett, National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, UK 'I am
happy to endorse this book enthusiastically as being appropriate
for a North American audience of adult educators.Though it's an
intentionally introductory survey, it never talks down to readers,
never condescends. On the other hand, it's not so intenationally
erudite that it collagpses into theoretical posturing; it stays
firmly grounded in and connected to practice.' Stephen Brookfield,
University of St. Thomas, USA Understanding Adult Education and
Training offers a broad overview of the field for adult educators
and workplace trainers. It introduces the keys issues, debates and
theories in a way which is relevant to practice. Its aim is to
deepen readers' understanding of adult learning and education so
that they can be better practitioners. Adult education is a diverse
field so there is no single body of knowledge which is appropriate
for all adult educators. Understanding Adult Education and Training
introduces a wide range of formal theory from adult education and
associated fields, and shows readers how they can use it their own
circumstances. The first edition of this book has become a standard
reference for students and professionals in Australia. This edition
is fully revised and updated for an international readership.
The internet origins of the American transgender movement The Two
Revolutions explores how the rise of the internet shaped
transgender identity and activism from the 1980s to the present.
Through extensive archival research and media archeology, Avery
Dame-Griff reconstructs the manifold digital networks of
transgender activists, cross-dressing computer hobbyists, and
others interested in gender nonconformity who incited the second
revolution of the title: the ascendance of “transgender†as an
umbrella identity in the mid-1990s. Dame-Griff argues that digital
communications sparked significant momentum within what would
become the transgender movement, but also further cemented existing
power structures. Covering both a historical period that is largely
neglected within the history of computing, and the poorly
understood role of technology in queer and trans social movements,
The Two Revolutions offers a new understanding of both
revolutions—the internet’s early development and the structures
of communication that would take us to today’s tipping point of
trans visibility politics. Through a history of how trans people
online exploited different digital infrastructures in the early
days of the internet to build a community, The Two Revolutions
tells a crucial part of trans history itself.
For nearly twenty centuries, the Roman Catholic Church withstood
all the currents of change and history and maintained a closely
guarded orthodoxy which has always served as the basis and center
of all Christianity. Yet, it is as if all of that has been just
arbitrarily swept away in the few years since Vatican II. Given
what the Church has always taught about itself being indefectible,
how could this have happened? Did that Council have something to do
with that terrible loss of faith? Can the real Catholicism be found
today, and if so, where? The shocking answer to this, once seen and
truly understood, is as every bit as glorious as the original
resurrection of Christ Himself, a tremendous source of faith and
inspiration. It is a broad-based, longstanding miracle passing
right before our eyes, have we but the Grace to see it for what it
is.
Sheep and his hilarious friends teach you how to bake. Covering
eight core baking skills including delicious sponge cakes, breads,

baking book is packed full of step-by-step photographic
instructions and colourful illustrations. Sheep may not be able to
bake, but you can! Practically Awesome Animals is a series of
practical activity books that use step-by-step instructions and
hilarious animal characters to teach kids how to draw, bake, cook
and create comics.
Adult education has never been more important or urgent than it is
today Few educators have had the impact on adult education of Griff
Foley. Professor Peter McLaren, University of California, Los
Angeles This timely and valuable book makes an important
contribution to our understanding of key recent developments in
adult education and their significance. Reflecting the increasingly
global nature of scholarship in the field, well-respected
international contributors analyse issues facing practitioners
today, and consider how these can be most positively embraced to
further the international cause of adult learning and social
justice. Janet Hannah, University of Nottingham Learning is central
to all aspects of human life, and failure to learn brings dire
consequences. As our world becomes more integrated and complex,
adult learning has become more important. Dimensions of Adult
Learning offers a broad overview of adult learning in the workplace
and community. Written by a team of international experts, it
introduces the core skills and knowledge which underpin effective

The presence and impact of Hispanics/Latinos in the United States cannot be ignored. Already the largest minority group, by 2050 their numbers will exceed all the other minority groups in the United States combined. This volume, called by one US reviewer `the best set of essays that I have ever read on Latino identity and group rights', addresses the issues concerned through a varied and interdisciplinary approach. With first-rate scholarship from a group of internationally renowned, established contributors, this collection of cutting-edge material makes a significant contribution to Latin American studies as well as Philosophy and Ethnic studies.

As developing societies emerge from legacies of conflict and
authoritarianism, they are frequently beset by poverty, inequality,
weak institutions, broken infrastructure, poor governance,
insecurity, and low levels of social capital. These countries also
tend to propagate massive human rights violations, which displace
victims who are marginalized, handicapped, widowed, and
orphaned--in other words, people with strong claims to justice.
Those who work with others to address development and justice
often fail to supply a coherent response to these concerns. The
essays in this volume confront the intricacies--and
interconnectedness--of transitional governance issues head on,
mapping the relationship between two fields that, academically and
in practice, have grown largely in isolation of one another. The
result of a research project conducted by the International Center
for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), this book explains how justice and
recovery can be aligned not only in theory but also in practice,
among both people and governments as they reform.
The fourth book in this series for younger readers sparkles like
its star--Lilac Peabody. As small, quick and shimmery as a
dragonfly, Lilac is a friend indeed to all children in
need--empowering them to solve their own problems and then
disappearing as soon as she is no longer required. Lilac Peabody is
a small and shimmery little alien being who flits around helping
children and tackles any challenge presented. Sometimes she's an
intergalactic party-planner, at others a cosmic beachcomber--but
always a friend to any child that needs her. Lilac Peabody empowers
children to solve their own problems and then disappears once they
have achieved their aims. Honey Hope is a bully. She teases and
taunts, sniggers and sneers. But why is she so mean? What lies
behind her unappealing behaviour? Lilac attaches herself to
Honeysuckle to find out and, as with the other children, Honey is
all the better for it. This story ends with a party, and for the
first time all four children from the book series discover their
common friendship with Lilac Peabody! but by this time, Lilac has
moved on! Annie Dalton has created this wonderful character for
younger readers, very much in the mould of Mel Beeby from Angels
Unlimited, though Lilac is no angel!! Smart and sassy, yet
sensitive and self-aware, Lilac speaks to children--both her
readers and the stars of her stories--in a way they can understand
and, at the same time, respect.
The third title in this sparkling new series for younger readers,
from the creator of Angels Unlimited. Lilac Peabody is a small and
shimmery little alien being who flits around helping children and
tackles any challenge presented. Sometimes she's an intergalactic
party-planner, at others a cosmic beachcomber. But always a friend
to any child that needs her. Lilac Peabody empowers children to
solve their own problems and then disappears once they have
achieved their aims. This is the third of four short novels which
all follow the same group of children within a school environment.
Each novel centres on one of the children but it is Lilac's
continuing presence that is the all-important link between the four
children. It is to Lilac that the children reveal their true
vulnerable selves. Charlie Chase is a joker. He is a popular,
confident boy but... he has a shameful secret. He can hardly read.
He would much rather play football, computer games, or make
everyone laugh, all the things that come easily to him. He is
Lilac's biggest challenge so far, but she and Charlie win through
in the end.
