This title provides clear and readily applicable guidance to
corporate board members on the involvement of boards of directors
in information technology (IT) governance. Specifically, it
demonstrates ways in which board members can execute IT duties
effectively. Specific tools such as a roadmap towards digital
transformation and a board-level dashboard for digital strategy and
oversight are also offered. While organizations are increasingly
dependent on IT for the creation of business value, the evidence
seems to indicate that boards of directors are not as involved in
IT-related strategic decision-making and control as they should be.
Research shows that high levels of board-level IT governance,
regardless of existing IT needs, will improve organizational
performance. This book provides unique insights into the inner
workings of a specific board of directors group, with a focus on
its IT governance structures and processes.
Grasslands are among the largest ecosystems in the world and
consequently are of great importance to mankind. The genotypes of
the species which are the main components of the grasslands have
great influence on total outcome and successful utilization of
grasslands. Therefore fodder crops and turf swards should be
constantly improved to follow modern trends in agriculture
production and landscape architecture. The wide range of breeding
programs for forage and amenity species, as well as new breeding
methods and techniques, is rapidly expanding the boundaries and is
making it possible to achieve outstanding breeding results. This
book includes papers presented at the 30th EUCARPIA Fodder Crops
and Amenity Grasses Section Meeting. The challenging title of the
book focuses on breeding of quantitative traits, which directly
impact the profitability and sustainability of grasslands and
fodder crops production, as well as on multidisciplinary approach
in grassland research and utilisation. Included papers offer a
unique collection of ideas and breakthroughs in the fields of
fodder crops and amenity grasses breeding and genetics, as well as
in the creative and innovative application of new tools in
practical breeding.
In the last decades, new experimental and numerical techniques
have taken many advanced features of porous media mechanics down to
practical engineering applications. This happened in areas that
sometimes were not even suspected to be open to engineering ideas
at all. The challenge that often faces engineers in the field of
geomechanics, biomechanics, rheology and materials science is the
translation of ideas existing in one field to solutions in the
other. The purpose of the IUTAM symposium from which this
proceedings volume has been compiled was to dive deep into the
mechanics of those porous media that involve mechanics and
chemistry, mechanics and electromagnetism, mechanics and thermal
fluctuations of mechanics and biology. The different sections have
purposely not been formed according to field interest, but on the
basis of the physics involved.
This book integrates theoretical advances and empirical data on
Enterprise Governance in Information Technology (EGIT) with
practical applications based on numerous case examples. The third
revised edition of Enterprise Governance of Information Technology
provides professionals and students with the most recent research
advancements as well as an in-depth discussion of the
recently-introduced Control Objectives for Information and Related
Technologies (COBIT) 2019 framework which can be used to facilitate
a tailored implementation of effective EGIT. Furthermore, the book
features a new chapter which provides readers with hands-on
examples from practice and clear insights on how these relate to
theory. At the forefront of the field, the authors of this volume
draw from years of research and advising corporate clients to
present a comprehensive resource on EGIT. Featuring a variety of
elements, including executive summaries and sidebars, extensive
references, questions and activities and additional online
materials, this book is a valuable updated resource for
professionals, students and researchers alike.
Grassland produces feed for livestock, improves soil fertility and
structure, protects water resources and may contribute to climate
change mitigation through carbon storage and to biodiversity
preservation. It simultaneously maintains sustainable economic
outputs for farmers and provides ecosystem services. Turf similarly
c- siderably contributes to our environment by adding beauty to our
surroundings, providing a safe playing surface for sports and
recreation. The species diversity present in most grasslands and
turfs is a functional div- sity contributing to the previously
mentioned agronomic and environmental bene?ts. The species belong
to different functional groups and the adequate species com- sition
may maximise the agronomic performance through a higher production
and a better quality and the environmental bene?ts through
symbiotic nitrogen ?xation or sources of pollen and nectar to
pollinators. In a given grassland or turf, the genetic diversity
available in each variety contributes to this economic and
environmental performance, but also to the stability of these
performances including the stability of the resistance against
pathogens and pests. Natural grasslands share many species with the
sown swards. They may be regarded as favourable sites for in situ
preservation of genetic diversity as well as valuable sources of
diversity for breeding.
Parkett # 66 features collaborations with Angela Bulloch (Canada),
Daniel Buren (France), and Pierre Huyghe (France). Huyghe
reassesses conceptual art concerns by reinterpreting familiar films
and themes in popular culture; he also draws on disregarded aspects
of everyday life, such as time and alienation, and brings them back
into our awareness. Bulloch's participatory sculptures explore the
physical and psychological aspects of space by using simple light
and sound effects that require the viewer's active participation.
In the 1960s, Buren began producing works by using the striped
cloth he calls "a seeing tool, " seeking a new way to make art
exist outside the museum and gallery spaces that delimited its
socializing capacity. Since then he has continued his striped works
and remains one of France's most important and cherished living
artists.

From the serpentine "Champie" of Lake Champlain to the venerable "Nessie" of Loch Ness, extraordinary-and un-explained-creatures of the deep have been reported in sightings throughout the twentieth century. Now, two of the world's leading cryptozoological investigators provide a globetrotting field guide to when, where, and what kind of mysterious aquatic beasts have gripped the public-and sometimes the scientific-imagination. Filled with comprehensive drawings, classifications, and maps, their book offers an invaluable and unusual resource for the intrepidly curious to investigate these sightings firsthand or to simply enjoy the fascinating accounts that others have given.
The first in a new series from Dis Voir, Encounters asks a
well-known contemporary artist to decide which subjects he or she
wants to discuss in their book. Each artist's book therefore offers
a specific experience in terms of content. In accordance with this
principle, each artist also selects a person -- due to certain
elective affinities -- with whom he or she would like to share this
exchange. At the very least, the resulting collaborative volumes
serve as an artistic and political laboratory of the present. In
this first installment, French artist Pierre Huyghe chooses to
encounter Canadian writer Douglas Coupland, author of Generation X,
because of the influence Coupland has had on his generation and on
Huyghe's own work. Together they discuss the construction of
characters, of narrative techniques based on chance, and the
political dimension present in Coupland's work -- themes that are
also fundamental questions on Huyghe's projects.
