The castles and other properties owned and managed by the National
Trust for Scotland are precious jewels in the crown of the nation's
heritage. Ensuring they provide a wonderful experience for visitors
requires expertise and enthusiasm from many people, mostly unseen,
who offer specialist knowledge and long-term thinking. This book
pays tribute to the craftspeople, gardeners, foresters, managers,
guides, surveyors, architects, archaeologists, conservators,
planners and more, who have made the Trust's properties so very
special to so many people. It celebrates their many and various
contributions as part of a long and continuing tradition in this
beautiful large-format, highly illustrated volume.
This book offers easy access to the everyday ethics problems that
occur in the medical care of children. It contains practical
guidance on how physicians and other healthcare practitioners may
manage both straightforward and complex ethics problems. The book
provides a readable and comprehensive introduction to ethics issues
for beginners and is also extremely valuable to experienced
practitioners. This work covers important "classical" ethical issues
such as privacy, confidentiality, truth telling, and discusses the
elements of the relationships that might exist between parents and
healthcare providers. However, the book also provides a resource
for new and emerging areas of bioethics. These include issues
arising in the new population of children who are beginning to
survive the neonatal and infant periods with a multitude of
problems - "children with medical complexity". Finally, it also
includes a section on the advantages and pitfalls of social media
use.
Three decades of research into retailing in England from the
seventeenth to nineteenth centuries has established a seemingly
clear narrative: fixed shops were widespread from an early date;
'modern' methods of retailing were common from at least the early
eighteenth century; shopping was a skilled activity throughout the
period; and consumers were increasingly part of - and aware of
being part of - a polite and fashionable culture. All of this is
true, but is it the only narrative? Research has shown that markets
were still important well into the nineteenth century and small
scale producer-retailers co-existed with modern warehouses. Many
shops were not smart. The development of modern retailing therefore
was a fractured and fragmented process. This book presents a
reassessment of the standard view by challenging the usefulness of
concepts like 'traditional' and 'modern', examining consumption and
retailing as inextricably linked aspects of a single process, and
by using the idea of narrative to discuss the roles and perceptions
of the various actors in this process - such as retailers,
shoppers/consumers, local authorities and commentators. The book is
therefore structured around some of these competing narratives in
order to provide a richer and more varied picture of consumption
and retailing in provincial England.

physiological advantages over their competitors. The Psychology of
Soccer seeks to present the detailed understanding of the theories
underpinning the psychological issues relating to soccer, along
with practical insights into effective psychological interventions
and strategies This book uses contemporary theory and research to
elucidate key concepts and applied interventions. It includes
world-leading expert commentaries of contemporary theoretical and
applied approaches in understanding critical issues in soccer, and
provides practical implications and insights into working
effectively in soccer-related contexts. The Psychology of Soccer is
an evidence-based resource to guide research and facilitate
practice and will be a vital resource for researchers,
practitioners, and coaches within the area of sport psychology and
related disciplines.
This book comprehensively presents all the necessary information
health professionals need to become Certified Asthma Educators.
Competent asthma educators must possess a number of skills: they
must have appropriate and sound medical and pharmaceutical
knowledge; be proficient and effective educators who can influence
their patients' behaviors for the better; and, finally, they need
the administrative and organizational skills needed to set up and
run efficient clinics at their places of work. The book is divided
into three sections to meet those needs: Asthma: The Fundamentals;
The Role of Education; and, The Effective Asthma Educator. The
first section covers clinical knowledge of asthma, with chapters
including lung structure and function, clinical presentation of
asthma, and environmental issues in asthma management. The second
section delves into the role of educating patients and teaches
readers how to best do that with an integrated approach between
physician, educator, and patient. The third section looks further
into educating techniques with a view of the learning process,
considerations for instruction locations, and the role the educator
plays overall. The final chapter in the book presents example cases
for readers to assess the knowledge they have learned throughout.
This second edition serves as both textbook and study guide for
certification as well as a long-term reference publication. It has
been fully updated from the previous edition with the latest
treatment guidelines, medications, and disease monitoring methods.
This is an ideal guide for asthma educators, those seeking NAECB
certification, and any health professional involved with
individuals who have asthma.

This book provides the most recent security, privacy, technical and
legal challenges in the IoT environments. This book offers a wide
range of theoretical and technical solutions to address these
challenges. Topics covered in this book include; IoT, privacy,
ethics and security, the use of machine learning algorithms in
classifying malicious websites, investigation of cases involving
cryptocurrency, the challenges police and law enforcement face in
policing cyberspace, the use of the IoT in modern terrorism and
violent extremism, the challenges of the IoT in view of industrial
control systems, and the impact of social media platforms on
radicalisation to terrorism and violent extremism. This book also
focuses on the ethical design of the IoT and the large volumes of
data being collected and processed in an attempt to understand
individuals' perceptions of data and trust. A particular emphasis
is placed on data ownership and perceived rights online. It
examines cyber security challenges associated with the IoT, by
making use of Industrial Control Systems, using an example with
practical real-time considerations. Furthermore, this book compares
and analyses different machine learning techniques, i.e., Gaussian
Process Classification, Decision Tree Classification, and Support
Vector Classification, based on their ability to learn and detect
the attributes of malicious web applications. The data is subjected
to multiple steps of pre-processing including; data formatting,
missing value replacement, scaling and principal component
analysis. This book has a multidisciplinary approach. Researchers
working within security, privacy, technical and legal challenges in
the IoT environments and advanced-level students majoring in
computer science will find this book useful as a reference.

This book summarises the findings of Seabird 2000, a major national
initiative to census all the breeding seabirds in Britain and
Ireland which incorporates the work of over 400 individuals
counting seabird numbers at coastal and inland sites over 15 years.
There is an account for each breeding species, with text by a
specialist author discussing distributional characteristics and
changes. There are 2 maps per species - one pinpointing each
breeding colony, and another expressing expansion, decline,
extinction and new colonisation. The British Isles are of global
importance for breeding seabirds - over 4 million pairs from 25
species breed here, including almost all of the world's Manx
Shearwaters and Northern Gannets. This is a readable and
comprehensive distillation of the most exhaustive and detailed
survey of seabird numbers in Britain ever conducted. It will be a
fascinating read for all birders and an essential resource for
everyone involved in the conservation of the marine environment.
