The chapters of this volume were written for the purpose of surveying the field of intensive family therapy. The book is not a compilation of previously published articles; all of the chapters are original contributions written at the request of the editors. The structure of the volume was determined by the editors' experience with family therapy and their continuous exchange with other workers in the field through symposia, personal discussions, and, in most cases, direct observation of their work.

Coming Home Again is a compelling case study of a single family that underwent family-of-origin therapy, presented by one of the earliest and best-known pioneers in the field. This book is unique in its presentation of the two dimensions of the therapeutic experience - that of the therapist and that of the clients. Framo and Levine serve as the therapy team, while Weber and his family are the clients in these two specialized, intense, brief intervention sessions that occurred one year apart. The transcripts of the sessions are supported by commentary from both therapists as well as insights from Weber - the client - who brings to bear clinical knowledge and knowledge of himself and his family.
