The inspiration behind Restaurant Klein JAN did not come from a desire
to create a fine dining experience in the middle of the Kalahari. It
came from the heart – from the tables of my childhood – memories that I
have taken with me into an unknown land. Although I hadn’t been to the
Kalahari before visiting Tswalu for the first time, I instantly
connected with this place. I felt my grandmother’s presence at Boscia
House, I fell in love with the people of the Northern Cape and was
overwhelmed by their hospitality, and the more time I spent in the
Kalahari, the deeper my roots spread through the endless red earth.
This book is my homage to losing your heart to a special place, and
making your dreams come true.
This textbook has been written especially for students who are being introduced to the field of finance for the first time.
In June 1998 the Fourth International Workshop on Digital Mammography was held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, where it was hosted by the department of Radiology of the University Hospital Nijmegen. This series of meetings was initiated at the 1993 SPIE Biomedical Image Processing Conference in San Jose, USA, where a number of sessions were entirely devoted to mammographic image analysis. At very successful subsequent workshops held in York, UK (1994) and Chicago, USA (1996), the scope of the conference was broadened, establishing a platform for presentation and discussion of new developments in digital mammog raphy. Topics that are addressed at these meetings are computer-aided diagnosis, image processing, detector development, system design, observer performance and clinical evaluation. The goal is to bring researchers from universities, breast cancer experts, and engineers together, to exchange information and present new scientific developments in this rapidly evolving field. This book contains all the scientific papers and posters presented at the work shop in Nijmegen. Contributions came from as many as 20 different countries and 190 participants attended the meeting. At a technical exhibit companies demon strated new products and work in progress. Abstracts of all papers were reviewed by members of the scientific committee. Many of the accepted papers had excellent quality, but due to limited space not all of them could be included as full papers in these proceedings. Papers that were rated high by the reviewers are included as long or short papers, others appear as extended abstracts in the last chapter."

The main goal of this book is to show how to modify and optimize the properties of the damping matrix in order to find the most beneficial way of adding damping to a given mechanical system. To this end, a two-degree-of-freedom model of disc brake is analyzed to gain insight into the fundamental physical behavior of damping. In addition, more realistic, high-dimensional finite element brake models are studied and optimized for stability.
Diophantine number theory is an active area that has seen tremendous growth over the past century, and in this theory unit equations play a central role. This comprehensive treatment is the first volume devoted to these equations. The authors gather together all the most important results and look at many different aspects, including effective results on unit equations over number fields, estimates on the number of solutions, analogues for function fields and effective results for unit equations over finitely generated domains. Jan-Hendrik Sewing makes a significant contribution to opening the
black box of current divestiture decision-making. He uses detailed
case studies, including numerous interviews with corporate
executives and experts from management consulting, private equity,
and investment banking. The author develops a conceptual framework

This book grew out of three series of lectures given at the summer school on "Modular Forms and their Applications" at the Sophus Lie Conference Center in Nordfjordeid in June 2004. The first series treats the classical one-variable theory of elliptic modular forms. The second series presents the theory of Hilbert modular forms in two variables and Hilbert modular surfaces. The third series gives an introduction to Siegel modular forms and discusses a conjecture by Harder. It also contains Harder's original manuscript with the conjecture. Each part treats a number of beautiful applications.
