How to grieve and maintain your sanity. A rational and
compassionate approach to bereavement. Non-religious individuals
who are experiencing grief need a resource that they can turn to as
they process their grief. They need a resource that will help them
cope, as Humanists, with the emotional trauma that is the grieving
process. This is that book. While there has been a lot written
about grief, not much has been written from an explicitly Humanist
perspective. The needs of a Humanist, while grieving, are slightly
different from others because Humanists, being rationalists, refuse
to allow themselves to be comforted by the false hope of reunion
that is a staple of religious belief. I decided to write this book
to help people who are experiencing grief come to terms with it in
a rational and compassionate way. After presiding over my first
funeral as a Humanist officiant, I realized that a book on Humanist
grief was needed. I felt the pain the bereaved were feeling and I
longed to be able to provide them comfort. I know that Humanism
provides an excellent framework for coping with grief, but it is
impossible to share all that I know about how Humanists approach
grief during a funeral. It also wouldn't do much good even if I
could. The bereaved need ongoing support because grief is a process
that takes time.
This book is designed to help parents vaccinate their kids against
bullies and other obnoxious petty people. By preparing for them in
advance you can effectively inoculate yourself against the worst of
their behavior. The goal is to not be the sort of person a bully
targets. It is much easier to prevent bullying than it is to stop
it once it starts. If you or your child are trying to cope with
bullying that is persistent, egregious and/or ongoing, this book
will teach how to stop the bullying from continuing. It isn't easy,
but it can be done if you know how. This book provides very
specific and practical information on how exactly to go about
ending bullying. The more you understand about the dynamic of what
is happening, the better able you will be able to help your child
navigate the social situations they find themselves in. And the
sooner you teach them these skills, the better off they are going
to be. Regardless of your child's age, this book can help you teach
your child the practical skills they need to cope with the bullies
they will encounter in life. It is never too young to start. No
parent wants to see their kid suffer. If you want to learn how to
protect your child, this book will help you teach them the specific
skills they need to be successfully inoculated against bullying.
This book is written to provide a quick overview of the philosophy
of Humanism for the average Joe or Jane. I don't care which
actually because I'm a Humanist and I don't judge people based on
their gender or skin color or any other arbitrary characteristic.
So, let's revise that introductory statement. This book is for the
average human, regardless of his or her name, who wants to learn
more about Humanism. Humanism is one of the most influential and
yet most maligned philosophies of all time. Unfortunately, most
people don't know anything about it. To make matters worse, there
are a lot of people who are already Humanists and just don't know
it yet because no one has ever taken the time to properly introduce
them to the philosophy. I intend to change that with this book.
Consider yourself introduced.
You can't understand humanistic business management unless you
understand what humanism is. This book provides a short
introduction to the philosophy of humanism and discusses how and
why it is being applied to business and why it is so effective when
you do so. Humanism helps us prioritize human value as important.
It supports positive interpersonal relationships and collaborative
and respectful decision-making. Since all businesses are in the
business of solving problems, good problem solving is essential to
good business. Humanism has already transformed many other
disciplines including psychology, medicine, nursing, and more.
Additionally, humanism is foundational to the practice of human
resources, without which businesses cannot operate. It is important
for business managers to understand the philosophy fully so they
can understand how to not only manage people more effectively, but
how to operate their businesses in a way that helps the communities
in which they operate. This book will provide the primer they need
to create more effective and ethical businesses.
