100 years ago women in the UK won the vote and 50 years ago the
Women's Liberation Movement began a sustained campaign for equal
rights. Eva Tutchell and John Edmonds draw upon historical
perspectives and contemporary interviews to convey what it felt
like to be in the heart of the campaigns-the excitement, the
solidarity, the suffering and the humour. The tragedy is that,
after hard-won successes, the revolution has stalled and equality
for women is still a distant dream. Today, men are paid more and
occupy nearly 80% of the most powerful jobs across society. The
Stalled Revolution poses a vital question about the future: Are
women ready to draw inspiration from past successes and take a
third leap forward towards equality? The book's three-part approach
traces clear pathways through historical successes and
disappointments, teaching a new generation of campaigners how to
confront the many challenges that face women in the modern world.
The Stalled Revolution showcases how the wisdom from our collective
struggles can help form the bedrock of a new and successful
liberation campaign today.
Unsafe Spaces reveals the shocking extent of sexual abuse in
English and Welsh universities. Thousands of students and staff
suffer sexual abuse every year and too little is being done to end
what has become a public scandal. This important book is based on
research, a detailed examination of current practice and on the
compelling testimony of survivors, who tell of their ordeal and the
miserable after-effects. Confidence is shattered and careers are
damaged. Unsafe Spaces names the handful of universities who have
approached this problem with sympathy and professionalism, but
finds that the majority are failing their students and staff.
Usually sexual abuse is given too little attention, and most
universities have not even collected reliable information or
recruited trained specialists. Too often, universities seek to
conceal the extent of sexual misconduct instead of focusing on care
and prevention. The authors advocate greater openness and a new
policy agenda, making the safety and welfare of everyone on campus
into a top priority for university management. Crucial reading for
university leaders, staff, students, and those committed to ending
sexual violence, Unsafe Spaces offers practical solutions both to
the present crisis and to the culture of disrespect which blights
many universities and allows sexual abuse to continue unchecked.
Author John Edmonds was given something very few were given:
insight on the day he died. For the twenty-five minutes when his
physical body was without a heartbeat, his spiritual self soared to
a great and profound epiphany. On this impossible journey, he was
given a glimpse into a greater truth as he learned of his
thirty-three previous incarnations on this earth.
Among his past lives, he was an Inuit kinsman, a father, a
doctor, a seafarer, an ancient pagan chieftain, and a monk. He was
allowed to revisit a former life in which he and Jesus Christ, his
dearest soul brother, lived in a town called Bethany. There, they
shared in His love and wisdom. At night, as the blazing winter
fires burned, they partook of the Divine. John and his sisters
clothed Him, bathed Him, and anointed His feet. In return, He saved
them in every possible way. Their hearts were torn to learn of His
great suffering. He was the One, the Messiah. He was Christ Jesus,
and He was John's dearest friend.
These are John's tales of a past life spent in the blessed
company of Christ Jesus, his brother, his flesh, and his blood-his
very personal recollection of an extraordinary friendship and love.
It chronicles an epic journey from ancient times to the present
day, a journey far beyond the realm of the living. This is the
story of his fascinating and compelling nonphysical experience and
the instruction he received during his time on the other side. His
is an astonishing tale of survival, courage, revelation, and
inconceivable willpower.
