This book focuses on the spread of public and private environmental
and food safety regulations from Europe and North America to Asia
and Africa. It explores the growth of policy diffusion and standard
alignment on sustainability observed in non-Western follower
countries in a globalizing world. The book examines the role of
both developed and developing non-Western countries as followers
that adopt food safety, environmental and sustainability policies
under different conditions to those of the originating country.
Chapters analyse non-state forms of transnational regulation, and
how these have diffused to non-Western countries. They showcase how
standard alignment efforts lead to multiple localized regulations
determined by specific circumstances, highlighting the dilemma in
designing policy in an era of globalization. The use of in-depth
case studies by renowned experts will make this book an important
read for political science and economics scholars interested in
trade, standards and international regulation. Policy-makers
concerned with issues of sustainability in follower countries will
find the book's lessons on how to adapt policies helpful.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

This insightful research review discusses some of the most
influential papers in the economics field of global value chains.
Focusing on globalization, fragmentation and coordination of
production across geographical as well as enterprise boundaries. It
pays particularly close attention to how businesses in developing
countries are incorporated into global production and distribution
networks. The review analyses many of the texts that framed the
global value chain approach together with in-depth case-studies of
particular sectors and policy-oriented research concerned with
reducing poverty and accelerating growth in poorer countries. This
review would be of great interest to students and researchers
working in the fields of globalisation, geography and international
business.
More photos are taken than ever before, but most are neglected and
unused. This book suggests new creative directions and explains how
you can produce distinctive and exciting works of art. Packed with
technical advice and in-depth practical detail, it shows you how to
use cameras and equipment for experimental photography. There are
ideas on how to develop a creative eye and a personal photographic
style. It explains when to use the rules of composition, and when
to break them and shows you how to create amazing pictures from
everyday objects. It provides inspiration, ideas and techniques for
making abstract and pattern pictures, and using textures for
artistic impact. Finally, it advises on using software to convert
pictures to artwork and how to present art images for maximum
effect. Through step-by-step guides and stunning examples, it also
helps you create images that tell a personal story. It's an
essential guide to help you take photos that count, not just click
away.
High magnification photography is immensely exciting and rewarding.
Through the close-up lens, everyday objects produce striking
images, and small creatures show amazing detail that usually goes
unnoticed. This book is both a practical guide to each step of the
close-up process, as well as a source of inspirational ideas and
subjects for producing high-impact images. Topics covered include:
cameras, lenses and equipment; step-by-step techniques for high
quality results; ideas for close-up subjects, including flowers,
insects and still life; composing close-up pictures for maximum
impact; using software for creative effect and suggestions for
presenting macro photographs.
Electron Microscopy and Analysis deals with several sophisticated
techniques for magnifying images of very small objects by large
amounts - especially in a physical science context. It has been ten
years since the last edition of Electron Microscopy and Analysis
was published and there have been rapid changes in this field since
then. The authors have vastly updated their very successful second
edition, which is already established as an essential laboratory
manual worldwide, and they have incorporated questions and answers
in each chapter for ease of learning. Equally as relevant for
material scientists and bioscientists, this third edition is an
essential textbook.
This book and its accompanying Teacher's Pack are the result of a
project, supported by the Nuffield Foundation, to provide flexible
learning materials for the Basic Application of Number core skill
for both the NVQs and GNVQ in construction and the construction
crafts. The student book uses a unique approach to explain how
mathematical principles apply to construction tasks. Each chapter
forms an individual construction project and uses the full range of
number skills from the fundamentals of addition and subtraction to
statistics, trigonometry and technical drawing. Successfully
completed projects provide the student with the required portfolio
of evidence for their course. Notes throughout the text refer the
student to the relevant module in the Teacher's Pack, which
contains assessments, tests and detailed explanations of the number
skills needed to complete the projects.

A recent report for the CIPD indicated that stress is now the more
common cause of long-term sick leave in the UK for the first time
ever. Demanding workloads and lack of job security are key stress
factors, but in a tough, highly competitive environment these
stressors are no longer avoidable. But you can learn how to cope
with the stress effectively. Coaching for Resilience is your
practical guide to the principles of positive psychology. Using
tried and tested techniques it will show you how to motivate and
inspire your clients and yourself to build greater resilience.
There are clear explanations of the principles of positive
psychology throughout, with practical exercises and examples for
ease of understanding. This comprehensive resource will help you
develop a clear understanding of the psychology of stress and
develop your own strategies to enhance resilience.

This book evaluates the evolution of regulatory policy in advanced
countries and discusses how, due to globalization, policy changes
in one country have a knock-on effect in others. Separated in two
parts, the first half focuses on policy in developed countries and
regulatory diffusion from Europe to Asia. The second part looks at
the business impact of policy developments in a number of Southeast
Asian countries. Key chapters discuss Thailand's response to EU
chemical regulations, the diffusion of private food standards, and
the effect of chemical safety standards in Malaysia and Vietnam.
These contributions are written by leading scholars in the field
and the book is likely to be of interest to students, researchers
and policy makers concerned with regulation changes in East Asia.
A case study of the largest industrial concentration in Latin
America, this work shows how the unique situation of auto workers
led them to articulate demands relevant for the whole working
class. By exploring a concrete situation in two specific plants,
the author clarifies the nature of work in modern industry.
Originally published in 1982. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the

Estuarine and coastal waters are acknowledged centres for
anthropogenic impacts. Superimposed on the complex natural
interactions between land, rivers and sea are the myriad
consequences of human activity - a spectrum ranging from locally
polluting effluents to some of the severest consequences of global
climate change. For practitioners, academics and students in the
field of coastal science and policy, this timely book examines and
exemplifies current and future challenges: from upper estuaries to
open coasts and adjacent seas; from tropical to temperate
latitudes; from Europe to Australia. This authoritative volume
marks the 50th anniversary of the Estuarine and Coastal Sciences
Association. Drawing on the expertise of more than 60 specialist
contributors, individual chapters address coastal erosion and
deposition; open shores to estuaries and deltas; marine plastics;
coastal squeeze and habitat loss; tidal freshwaters - saline
incursion and estuarine squeeze; restoration management using
remote data collection; carbon storage; species distribution and
non-natives; shorebirds; Modelling environmental change; physical
processes such as sediments and modelling; sea level rise and
estuarine tidal dynamics; estuaries as fish nurseries; policy
versus reality in coastal conservation; developments in estuarine,
coastal and marine management. In addition to providing an overview
of current scientific understanding, the material gathered here
offers a clear-eyed perspective on what needs to be done to protect
these fragile - and vital - ecosystems.
