Your author designed Guidance and Control Systems for advanced military aircraft for two decades in the 1980's. He was the designer of the first Fly-By-Wire Aircraft (e.g., F111) which used a Dither Self-Adaptive Control System for adjusting the Flight Control Parameters during Terrain Following Missions or High Altitude Missions. I noted the success Fly by Wire Drones were having in destroying Al-Qaeda Terrorists in Pakistan and Yemen. This book is based on your author's knowledge of fly by wire aircraft and information obtained by sifting thru Internet information. There has been a true revolution using Fly by Wire and Dither Adaptive techniques in all new flying machines. The aircraft of today use nanotechnology computers and sensors for the software in private aircraft, military fighters, and airliners.

Global Education For Universities and Colleges (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Global Education For Universities and Colleges (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R808 Discovery Miles 8 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author attended an Alumni Seminar day in 2013 at USC (University of Southern California) where he had received his PhD and taught as an adjunct assistant Professor in Computer science. He received two lectures in person, but both lectures could have been sent by internet as part of Global Education. In that way registered students worldwide could have received the same lectures either in realtime or downloaded using encoded files. Both of these USC lectures were of fascinating topics, but such lectures could be made on a large number of subjects spread out over time to satisfy the requirements of the University in which the student is enrolled. The purpose of this book is to describe how the Internet age requires a vast revision of the University Education System on a global basis. The book will give information on things that can be done and how to do these things to achieve Global Education. Global education means the students can live anywhere and can be enrolled in Universities anywhere and be lectured by the best. One could postulate that, for example, the university of the future will have no library because students will carry it in their pockets; and that there will be no classes, as adaptive, interactive, computer-taught sessions will have taken their place. Lectures will be provided, courtesy of distance learning, by a few world-class professors located around the globe. The University of Arizona offers website degrees so you can live anywhere on Earth and earn website degrees with this university. This book also provides information about Website degrees in the US, Asia and Europe. The rating of the University offering the website degree is important in obtaining a job. So it may be easy to use the University of Arizona for an advanced degree, but earning a degree from a higher ranked university may be worth considering.

Open Heart Bypass Surgery to Fix Defects (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Open Heart Bypass Surgery to Fix Defects (Paperback)

R1,006 Discovery Miles 10 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your Author had an Open Heart Surgery at UCLA to repair a defective heart valve and the blood veins nearby. A local cardiovascular MD recommended I have the surgery and to have the operation performed by experts at UCLA in Los Angeles. I called UCLA to talk to a surgeon who had done the surgery before. This operation was performed by a Professor-Surgeon who had done a number of similar heart operations. I explained my problem to him and he studied my records from my home town. He agreed I needed an operation and promptly set it up in two weeks. Since it was late December 1013, I would be in the UCLA hospital during Christmas 2013. I accepted the date and gave it to my wife for planning our schedule. In the years before the operation I had been walking four miles a day along a wilderness path adjacent to the river in Lompoc, CA. I was nervous about the operation and I was about to cancel the surgery when some four days before the scheduled date I lost my energy and was unable to perform the daily 4 mile walk. I could barely walk around the block. So I decided to continue with the surgery appointment. I'm glad I did because I feel much better now. Four months after the surgery I was able to walk four miles along the River Path with the aid of a deluxe walker complete with hand brakes and a seat for rest-stops during the four mile walk.

Wealth Accumulating to the Few (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Wealth Accumulating to the Few (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,003 Discovery Miles 10 030 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author decided to write this book about Wealth Accumulates to the Few when chatting with my son about how he felt after having been laid off from designing the software for the Mars Lander. His response was it caused him to think about social matters while working on a new Space Vehicle as a software consultant. He pointed out the following: During the Industrial Revolution, there has been more and more automation that has meant fewer and fewer human workers were required to produce the goods needed. He also reminded me that the rapid advancements in technology have made the goods needed grow obsolete at a more and more rapid pace. For example, travelers no longer use horse drawn carriages - they use automobiles that travel on the freeways at 75 mph instead of a carriage at 15 or 20 mph. Fewer and fewer people are buying Laptop computers since they can obtain more functions on a Smart Phone for a fraction of the price. In Detroit the automobile factories are almost deserted of human workers since the same jobs can be done better and cheaper by robots. So what is this doing? It is causing the Economic Wealth to accumulate to those few who were able to get in on the profit of one of these activities that generate huge profits. More profit - fewer people to share in the profit - therefore the wealth accumulates to that few.

When I was an Aerospace Executive responsible for overseas sales to Iran and Israel, I had to do a lot of overseas travel by airliner so I wanted to write this book, to learn how airline travel has improved since the mid 1980s. Later the vice-president to whom I reported offered me the Israeli business if I was willing to form my own company. I eagerly accept his offer and established a company specializing in designing Guidance and Control Systems for Military Aircraft, which was basically funded by the profits from the Israeli business. One of the consulting contracts of my company was to spend several months in Taiwan, designing a new guidance and control system for their new Ultra Fighter Aircraft to help defend them against their enemies at that time. ch less expensive than conventional (old-fashioned) At the Autonetics Division of Rockwell I was Chief Engineer responsible for the F111 Avionics system built by General Dynamics - Fort Worth with Avionics supplied by Autonetics. This avionic system included a fly-by wire system with duplicate Airborne Computers to perform all the computations required by the Avionics systems, including the first GPS installed on a military aircraft. A second reason I wanted to write this book is that I learned that the Dreamliner has some of the features first used on the F111 for which I designed the Guidance and Control. This book includes a description of the similar features used by the Dreamliner. I realize that the advent of Nanotechnology used in the Dreamliner electronics, makes it quite different than the electronics of the F111 time period. For example, GPS navigation is included as a function on handheld smartphones in the nanotechnology era rather a PC computer sized box used on the F111. Another important factor is cost: nanotechnology electronics are muelectronics.

DNA Chemistry, DNA Damage and Repair, Aid to Human Health (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd DNA Chemistry, DNA Damage and Repair, Aid to Human Health (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,017 Discovery Miles 10 170 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author decided to write this book about DNA Chemistry after being invited to a Caltech Associates dinner to hear a speech by Professor Jacqueline Barton, a leader in the study of chemistry of DNA by the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department at Caltech where she is Chair of that department. I have included in this book research I discovered taking place after investigating the Internet. As Professor Barton stated in her Associates lecture, DNA can be damaged in the double helical DNA. She and her Caltech research associates are using a base of sensors they design to find where the DNA is damaged and is in need of repair to avoid cancerous mutations. The purpose of this book is to use the Internet to explore what is happening in DNA Chemistry Research. I find much research is taking place and it is exciting to find out about the impact on Human Health in the areas of Cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. We examine in detail what is happening in the areas of DNA damage detection and what is being done to repair the damage.

Washington Political Battles (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Washington Political Battles (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,117 Discovery Miles 11 170 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author felt the Washington Political Battles were preventing anything from being accomplished in Washington DC. I found out other Americans like me had the same views of the Washington Problem when I attended my wife's High School Alumni meeting and my Caltech Alumni meeting in May 2013. I heard men and women at both alumni meetings saying over and over again: Can't these elected officials in Washington get anything done? It appears these elected officials feel no obligation to solve the problems of the country. They appear to believe we elected them to point fingers at each other rather than do what they are supposed to do. I have tried to find out what is happening in these Washington Political battles by researching the Internet. In this book I tried to present what Washington IS doing instead of their responsible jobs.

Dark Matter Evidence Found at CERN (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Dark Matter Evidence Found at CERN (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,120 Discovery Miles 11 200 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author decided to write this book about Dark Matter when observations from the CERN reported that evidence of Dark Matter, which consists of about 25% of the mass of the Universe, had been found early in the year 2013. I found there was a tremendous amount of research going on about the Cosmology of our Universe including such items as Dark Matter. I performed extensive research on the Internet of the research taking place to discover what Dark Matter is. When I was a student at Caltech for my BS in Physics and at USC for my PhD in EE, Internet did not exist. It is exciting that Internet makes it easy to transfer knowledge quickly and efficiently. Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo make it easy to research what is known about such matters as Dark Matter. This book presents what I learned about Dark Matter and what it is.

Nanorobots & Microrobots Exciting Tools of Future (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Nanorobots & Microrobots Exciting Tools of Future (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,102 Discovery Miles 11 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Your author decided to write this book about Microrobots after seeing a news release by MIT about their research on Microrobots. Microrobots and other microelectronic devices were enabled by Nanotechnology first introduced by Professor Richard P Feynman who was a professor at Caltech while your author was a physics student earning the BS in physics there between 1947 and 1951. I started studying the pioneering research of Dr. Feynman after being reminded of his famous lecture titled: There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom. This discourse was presented at an American Physical Society meeting at Caltech on December 29, 1959. Dr. Feynman considered the possibility of direct manipulation of individual atoms as a more powerful form of synthetic chemistry than the techniques being used at that time. This became nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has made possible the many things we see in electronics now: the chips used in PCs, the advent of Laptop computers, mobile devices or Smart Phones such as Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone and Tablet Computers such as the Toshiba Thrive Tablet. And now the latest nanotechnology devices exemplified by Microrobots. These tiny devices will allow things to be done in the near future that could not be done before. This book will tell you about what is known about Microrobots at the end of 2013.

Multihulls - Around the World Catamaran Race (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Multihulls - Around the World Catamaran Race (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,344 Discovery Miles 13 440 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A select group of world-class yachtsmen prepare for the Round-the-World Multihull Race, a test to determine not only the best go-fast design but also who is the world's greatest skipper. The challengers have known each other through years of Grand Prix and Olympic sailing competitions. Ronny Kelly, amiable and clever Californian, Paoli Venuzzi, who secretly cheated Kelly out of the gold at the Barcelona Olympics, and the Frenchman Phillippe Matin, holder of many cross-Atlantic speed records, emerge as the top contenders. Their efforts are bankrolled by a variety of international corporations plus a Mafia backed bank. The Mafia schemes to collect millions in gambling and drug peddling profits by pressuring their skipper to smuggle cocaine and to arrange "accidents" during the race. As the race proceeds, the Mafia become more and more desperate to recoup their gambling losses and their attempts become much more than "accidents."

Mars Mission and Shuttle History & Replacement (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Mars Mission and Shuttle History & Replacement (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,016 Discovery Miles 10 160 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

If we can send manned missions to the Moon then a manned mission to Mars is feasible. Preliminary work for missions has been undertaken since the 1950s, with planned missions typically taking place 10 to 30 years in the future. Your author learned about the details of the Mars Mission from the Curiosity Program Director's lecture at Caltech. The last Space Shuttle was launched and recovered in 2011. We need a replacement for the shuttle. NASA devised a program called ORION as a shuttle replacement. Your author had served as a technical advisor to the Space Shuttle and as a result he was invited to witness the first Space Shuttle launch at Kennedy Space Center on the east coast of Florida in 1970. The reason your author could help the Space Shuttle designers was because he had served as Chief Engineer of the F111 which used the same IBM airborne computers as were adapted for use on the Space Shuttle. Much of the Space Shuttle software was obtained by modifying the F111 software to fit the Shuttle requirements. The "Orion" Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) is a planned beyond-low-earth-orbit manned spacecraft that is being built by Lockheed Martin for NASA based on designs and tests already completed as part of the now-cancelled Constellation program, development for which began in 2005 as the Crew Exploration Vehicle. The MPCV was announced by NASA on 24 May 2011.

Bin Laden Demise as Seen on Internet in 2011 (Paperback): Jon Schiller Phd Bin Laden Demise as Seen on Internet in 2011 (Paperback)
Jon Schiller Phd
R1,518 Discovery Miles 15 180 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the September 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces on Monday (1 May 2011 Pakistani time which was 2 May 2011 Washington, DC, time), then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run. Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy. The stunning news of his death prompted relief and euphoria outside the White House and around the globe, yet also fears of terrorist reprisals against the United States and its allies. "Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said in a dramatic announcement at the White House. The military operation took mere minutes, and there were no U.S. casualties. U.S. helicopters ferried troops from Navy SEAL Team Six, a top military counter-terrorism unit, into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout - and back out again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the assault. Three adult males were also killed in the raid, including one of bin Laden's sons, whom officials did not name. One of bin Laden's sons, Hamza, is a senior member of al-Qaeda. U.S. officials also said one woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, and two other women were injured. The U.S. official who disclosed the burial at sea said it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial.
