Offering a bird's eye view of foreign investments in Latin America,
this volume informs us of how the economic and social environment
affects management in Latin American subsidiaries and regional
markets. It also presents Japan Multinational Enterprises Study
Group (JMNESG) led by Dr. Abo, who visited 5 Japanese companies in
Argentina, 15 in Brazil and 10 in Mexico. Exploring 30 companies in
detail, the scores are analyzed by a hybrid theory of application
and adaptation established by JMNESG. The companies JMNESG visited
are located mainly in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, but also in
Chile and Venezuela, and include: Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Toshiba,
and Panasonic. The authors discuss and explore the unique
characteristics of Japanese management in Latin America in
comparison with world-wide application scores and offer a summary
of free trade zones.
Explores the Latin American economy and management through the
study of Japanese companies in countries such as Argentina, Brazil,
and Mexico. Based on detailed case studies, this volume offers a
bird's eye view of foreign investments in Latin America.
This is the proceedings of the fourth in a series of inter national
gatherings on kindling held on the University of British Columbia
campus, June 15-17, 1989. Since the last gath ering in 1985,
kindling continues to attract an ever-increasing number of
investigators as reflected by the phenomenal increase in the number
of kindling-related research reports. No other acute or chronic
model has been exploited so extensively using electrophysiological,
pharmacological, biochemical and behav ioural approaches involving
a variety of brain sites and ani mal species. The continuing
search, during the past few years, for the mechanism underlying the
enduring change induced by kindling is beginning to shed some light
on aspects of its molecular basis and to suggest the future
direction of research. The late Graham Goddard, the original
kindler, would have been delighted with this development. We were
all shocked and saddened by his tragic death, but his spirit is
very much alive among all of us who gathered together to share new
information and collectively reassess the present state of
knowledge at this symposium. I must say that we miss him very, very
much. We know he is happy in his heaven knowing that he
accomplished more in a short lifetime than most and that his love
for mankind, and life's challenges, remain as a legacy, and goal,
for us all.
Two issues central to the transition from the Koryo to the Choson
dynasty in fourteenth-century Korea were social differences in
ruling elites and the decline of Buddhism, which had been the state
religion. In this revisionist history, Juhn Ahn challenges the
long-accepted Confucian critique that Buddhism had become so
powerful and corrupt that the state had to suppress it. When newly
rising elites (many with strong ties to the Mongols) used lavish
donations to Buddhist institutions to enhance their status, older
elites defended their own adherence to this time-honored system by
arguing that their donations were linked to virtue. This emphasis
on virtue and the consequent separation of religion from wealth
facilitated the Confucianization of Korea and the relegation of
Buddhism to the margins of public authority during the Choson
dynasty.
Set against the backdrop of the collapsing Cold War world, this
monograph draws on entirely new documentary evidence to chronicle
almost two years worth of UN-led peace talks to end the civil war
in El Salvador. Presented in 'moment-to-moment' fashion, hitherto
private notes and interviews with the chief UN, American and
Salvadoran negotiators demonstrate that the key to enduring peace
was to restructure relations between the country's powerful
entrepreneurs and the armed forces.

Yi Song-bok has been hailed as one of the most important
contemporary South Korean poets. His first collection of poems,
When Does a Rolling Stone Awaken, published in 1980, is a trenchant
critique of the state of mind of Koreans and of the social and
political conditions in the country at the time. His second
collection, South Sea, Silk Mountain, is a softer, quieter, more
intimate book. This volume presents a translation of the
collections in both Korean and English text, including interviews
with the author.
Dabei
garantiert die Konzentration auf ubergeordnete strategische und
operative Fragestellungen die langerfristige Relevanz der Aussagen.
