Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant diseases
affecting women worldwide. Studies on loss of heterozygosity have
been made for PTEN gene specific microsatellite markers in
malignancies like breast, ovary and lungs and the results have
shown a significant association. However the role of this gene is
not clearly understood in cervical cancer from Indian population. A
total of 135 cervical carcinoma tissues samples were analyzed for
loss of heterozygosity. DNA was isolated from the samples and their
matched control specimens. Polymerase chain reaction was performed
using primer specific for two intragenic markers and one marker in
flanking region and further electrophoresed on 8% denaturing
polyacrylamide gel. Overall, 31 out of 133(23%) informative cases
showed loss of heterozygosity in at least one locus in the region
examined. The percentage of loss of heterozygosity for these
markers ranged from 8% to 13%. Loss of heterozygosity was more
frequently detected in intragenic region than in flanking region.
The discovery of green fluorescent protein and cloning of its gene
from Aequorea victoria heralded a new era of investigation in
virtually every field of cell and molecular biology ranging from
the study of gene expression to protein sorting, organelle
structure, measurement of protein-protein interaction, and so
on.Before GFP, however several other fluorescent molecules has been
in use but none of them could be as potential as GFP. What makes
GFP so significant is its ability to fluoresces itself once formed
in comparison of other bioluminescent molecules (such as aequorin
and firefly luciferase) which require the addition of other
substrate before they glow. Further, it is a small protein and can
be attached to the protein of interest without disturbing its
proper function. Also its small size allows following the fused
protein, especially in organelles like neurons.
Today the world is looking towards the efficient energy generation
from renewable energy sources because of extinction of fossil
fuels.Wind energy is a promising source of green energy. But the
problem associated with this kind of energy id due to varying wind
speeds the out put is also varying so it is not possible to
integrate it to grid. Here Induction generators are dominantly used
because of their advantages in variable speed torque
characteristics. In this book an attempt is made to discuss
different types of generators used in wind energy and different
topologies for control of voltage and frequency of Self Excited
induction generator are discussed and new promising methods are
proposed for low cost power generation.
