In the instruction and learning process, the role writing plays has
often been overlooked. Writing is thinking! It is a tool for
learning in all content areas. The ever-growing body of brain
research supports that learning to write transitions into writing
to learn as students progress through upper elementary, middle,
high school, and college. Writing is much more than the ability to
craft an analytical essay. Writing has the potential to engage
students in critical thinking and critical reflection as
historians, mathematicians, scientists, or experts in any content
area. Writing is Thinking explores methods and activities to
effectively incorporate writing to help learners successfully
master, analyze, apply, and express content knowledge.
The book focuses on effective technology use and diffusion.
Theoretical principles such as SAMR and TPACK are discussed and
connected to real-world scenarios, emphasizing leadership in
implementing classroom and school-wide technology implementation to
support student learning. Theories and practices for providing
professional development for technology implementation are
addressed. Activities to be completed in small groups or
individually, as well as examples of technology tools, are provided
to further underscore the application of key concepts.

This book provides the theory behind integration of technology,
provides a rationale for that integration, and explores resources
and methods for supporting others in their growth in technology
integration. Educational leaders will be a particular focus of the
book as the need to be prepared to help their faculty integrate
technology into their institutions. They are knowledgeable about
administrative responsibilities, but not always as knowledgeable
about theories and best practices of technology integration. Each
chapter begins with a scenario or example from K-12 or higher
education to illustrate the ideas presented in the chapter, then
the chapter delves into the theoretical background, followed by a
technology example, and concluding with activities readers could
engage in to deepen their understanding of the concepts presented.
Educators are facing increasing demands and challenges due to the
current emphasis on student growth and teacher accountability.
Academic or instructional coaches can work with teachers to help
them develop ideas, methods, and strategies for facing and
successfully conquering these challenges leading to increased
student achievement. Using scenarios and scholarly resources, the
book follows one coach's journey from her first day as an
instructional or academic coach through her development to an
experienced coach who is prepared to help new coaches. The
discussion of the theoretical basis for teaching and learning
provides the basis for examining various approaches to coaching,
methods of data collection and analysis, the components of teacher
evaluation systems, and methods for implementing these ideas into
the K-12 educational setting. This book is a must read for all
coaches and teacher leaders!
