Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
The safety of agri-food supply chains remains under constant threat
from risks such as food adulteration, malicious contamination,
microbiological and chemical hazards, as well as the presence of
foreign bodies in food products. Developing smart agri-food supply
chains: Using technology to improve safety and quality provides an
authoritative assessment of recent developments to improve safety
and quality at key points in the agri-food supply chain. This
collection provides a comprehensive coverage of the methods used in
tracking and traceability (including detecting genetically-modified
organisms in food products), ways of assessing product integrity,
dealing with malicious contamination as well as quality assessment
and ensuring transparency in supply chains. Edited by Professor
Louise Manning, Royal Agricultural University, UK, Developing smart
agri-food supply chains: Using technology to improve safety and
quality will be a standard reference for those researching food
safety, agri-food logistics and supply chains in universities or
other research centres, as well as government and commercial
agencies responsible for safety and quality monitoring of agri-food
supply chains. It will also be a key reference for supply chain
actors, from farmers to food processors and retailers.
Foodborne Diseases: Case Studies of Outbreaks in the Agri-Food
Industries defines the context of foodborne disease across a range
of food sectors. It provides insight into the causes and management
of outbreaks along with practical lessons about foodborne disease
prevention strategies relevant to stakeholders throughout the food
supply chain. Individual chapters capture the epidemiological and
traceback investigations of foodborne disease outbreaks in a wide
range of food sectors that include fresh produce, dairy and eggs,
and meat products, to complex food ingredients and products within
the food manufacturing and food service sectors. Under each food
category, case studies of real outbreaks are presented, along with
lessons learned in the way they were managed for future control of
foodborne disease outbreaks. The authors look at management of
outbreaks across borders and consider how both local and
international authorities dealt with the issues in each case. They
focus on real-life microbiological/chemical-associated outbreaks
and provide insights on how the outbreaks occurred and, if
possible, how they were traced to the source of contamination. Each
outbreak is unique, and readers are given the distinctive
circumstances associated with different hazards, challenges faced
during epidemiological and environmental investigations, risk
communication to the general public, and insights into outbreak
management. The authors cover the entire food supply chain,
including a chapter on animal feed safety. A chapter on fraud and
foodborne outbreaks considers scenarios where food industries, food
services, and other stakeholders commit food adulteration, which
ultimately leads to foodborne illnesses. Outbreak management and
prevention strategies are key parts of each case study.
The Blackstone's Guide Series is a well established series of
practical guides to the latest new legislation. The Guides all
contain a full copy of the Act together with commentary on the
effects, extent and scope of the legislation. The Guides are
concise, accessible and clearly laid out, essential tools for those
practising in the area. The Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 comes
into force in stages from February 2004. It is a far-reaching Act,
creating new powers for the courts, the police, and local
authorities to combat a wide range of behaviour (from truancy to
noise nuisance; graffiti to drug dealing; fly-tipping to firearms).
It makes major amendments to a wide range of existing legislation
(including the Housing Acts 1985, 1988 and 1996, the Environmental
Protection Act 1990, the Public Order Act 1986, the Education Act
1996, the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Criminal Justice and
Public Order Act 1994, the Firearms Act 1968 and the Police Reform
Act 2002). Its impact in all these fields is significant. This
Guide takes a practical and critical approach to the Act, providing
full commentary and background information on its provisions. The
Guide provides the full context for the many piecemeal and
unconnected amendments made by the new provisions, including where
necessary, details of the existing law and an overview of where the
changes made by the Act will fit within the law as a whole. The
Guide is structured clearly and logically, following the Parts of
the Act, and is an indispensable reference aid for practitioners in
any of the areas touched on by the Act, but particularly, in
housing, environmental, education and criminal law.
