It is 1976 and Mikey, eight-years-old and street-wise beyond his years, is looking forward to a summer of freedom, roaming the creeks and the mud-flats of Canvey Island. But violent emotions are rumbling beneath the surface, about to destroy all that he thought he knew. When Mikey's neighbours, the Freemans, win a great deal of money, the old couple become the targets of a criminal act that leaves Peggy Freeman dead and her husband, Bert thirsting for revenge. Believing that young Mikey's family is responsible, Bert devises a highly unusual but devastatingly effective form of reprisal. But where does the guilt really lie, and will there be punishment or redemption? Told from Mikey's viewpoint with light touches of humour, A Patient Man is a gripping crime novel peopled with believable characters who are drawn inexorably in to a story that explores the effects of greed, money and the human need for retribution.
Pip is a New Zealand woman who is working as a Pain Management Counsellor in a hospital in the Scottish Borders. She has come to the UK in search of her destiny. When Pip meets Osi, a staunch British Army Officer, they are both overwhelmed by their physical and spiritual connection. The timing is not good for their relationship as Osi is deployed to Iraq. When he goes, their bond takes Pip into an intense emotional and spiritual adventure. As she no longer has physical contact with Osi, she maintains her connection with him via a journal, where she lives pain and health care by day and pain and war with Osi by night. She becomes reliant on the media for any information regarding his mission. Her visions and dreams of war become so entangled with her daily life that she is not sure where the boundaries of reality lie. When Osi returns, his experiences in Iraq confirm to Pip that her dreams and visions are a spiritual gift. His return is short lived. Throughout her journal Pip uses songs and poetry to entwine her dreams with stories of her life in the Borders, travel, visits with her old friend Milton and Jacquie who has cancer. Through it all Pip is supported by these close friendships and her sister in New Zealand, with whom she relies on regular contact. As their paths continue to cross in her dreams and in reality, she is inspired to write a book about the richness and pain he has brought to her life. This heart warming story explores relationships across age and culture, set against the backdrop of Army and Healthcare institutions. It identifies with anyone who may have been touched by the God of War.
A Sign For Life, derives from a glimpse into the future a pathway only God could open. It speaks of a vison which came to past and later developed into an orchestrated script with a horrific storyline. Visions are pathways to a purpose and while on this journey I realized more than ever that spiritual truths are far beyond sight or imagination. No matter what we know or what we may think power is, Gods' power is manifested through the unseen and His glory is revealed in the midst of life impossibilities. When tested and released through personal and private pain I was lonley and yet realizing I was not alone, I was broken but only God could do the repairs. The challange included the responsibilities of family, finance, and the aftermath of the storm. This powerful encounter of a night vision which stayed fashioned in the corner of my mind that is until, reality stepped in and took its place. This is not a writing of a medical journal, but it is of a medical journey, a vision which came to past, from the beginning to the ending. The end result, the Glory of God revealed
Learn about the Master while training your best friend Training your dog to come when called is hard. Putting down that third brownie is even harder. Discipline and obedience are not exactly welcome words for dogs or people. Dingo Devotionals will show you how living within boundaries is not restrictive but the most liberating choice we can make. Author and boarding kennel owner Lynne Scott noticed the parallels between dog training and faith in God while taking her dogs through obedience classes. Struggling with her own spiritual journey during her husband's battle with Lou Gehrig's disease, dogs in Lynne's care and the on-going training of her Australian Cattle dog, Foster, brought home the message of Trust the Master. Wise and humorous, Dingo Devotionals provides a unique perspective at the intersection of life and faith.
NOTES FROM THE OTHER SIDE - Stories From the Afterlife, Wisdom For the Living. A treasure of true and compelling accounts from twenty-one people who died yet wish to communicate their newfound wisdom regarding life from the perspective of the afterlife. Each story is as unique as the person telling it, from the elderly physician who did not believe in an afterlife, to the Chinese brother and sister who reunite in death after a lifetime apart. Ultimately, each describes their life lessons through the lens of true gratitude. NOTES FROM THE OTHER SIDE captures the heart as it raises the veil providing a glimpse into the afterlife. Eye-opening insights and soul-stirring passages, it combines into a phenomenal book. A rare gem and a must read
In lyrical prose, award-winning author and professional caregiver Lynn Scott shares her insights and the love she found in an unlikely place. "A Joyful Encounter" parallels her experience caring for Marietta, an Alzheimer patient, with that of her own mother, who died twenty years before with dementia. This love story explores the wisdom, wit, and irony that transfers from Scott's patients to her own heart, and allows her to forgive her mother, and more importantly, herself, for their difficult past. Lynn Scott, senior caregiver and former Director of the Children's Program at the Center for Attitudinal Healing in Sausalito, California, has received awards in non-fiction, fiction, and poetry. She seeks to uncover the healing potential in any situation. This wonderful book overflows with Lynn Scott's own brand of gutsy, spontaneous delight. While compassion makes all the rest possible, it is her honesty, flexibility, and verve that distinguishes this book, and allows the reader to share fully in the pleasure of her many insights. -Dr. Dori Appel, psychologist, award winning playwright, and poet, co-author of the hit comedy, "Hot Flashes" (Samuel French, 2005)
