North Korea is perilously close to developing strategic nuclear
weapons capable of hitting the United States and its East Asian
allies. Since their first nuclear test in 2006, North Korea has
struggled to perfect the required delivery systems. Kim Jong-un's
regime now appears to be close, however. Sung Chull Kim, Michael D.
Cohen, and the volume contributors contend that the time to prevent
North Korea from achieving this capability is virtually over;
scholars and policymakers must turn their attention to how to deter
a nuclear North Korea. The United States, South Korea, and Japan
must also come to terms with the fact that North Korea will be able
to deter them with its nuclear arsenal. How will the erratic Kim
Jong-un behave when North Korea develops the capability to hit
medium- and long-range targets with nuclear weapons? How will and
should the United States, South Korea, Japan, and China respond,
and what will this mean for regional stability in the short term
and long term? The international group of authors in this volume
address these questions and offer a timely analysis of the
consequences of an operational North Korean nuclear capability for
international security.

Modern Political Campaigns brings together academic, practical, and
interviews to help understand how professionalism, technology, and
speed have revolutionized elections, creating more voter-centric
races for public office. Dr. Michael D. Cohen, a 20+ year veteran
of working on, teaching, and writing about political campaigns take
readers through how campaigns are organized, state-of-the-art tools
of the trade, and how some of the most interesting people in
politics got their big breaks. The book takes readers through
clear-eyed chapters on parties and elections, campaign planning and
management, fundraising, independent groups, vulnerability and
opposition research, data and analytics, focus groups and polling,
earned, paid and social media, and field operations. Finally, the
book revisits the Permanent Campaign in terms of modern approaches
to winning elections raising questions about today's uniform
preference for turnout over persuasion and what that means for our
American democracy. Modern Political Campaigns will appeal to
students and political activists interested in working in political
campaigns. It is also a great read for anyone who wants to better
understand the nuts and bolts of campaigns in practical terms from
professionals, and the opportunities they provide all of us to be
more engaged citizens and hold our leaders more accountable each
Election Day.
Harnessing Complexity will be indispensable to anyone who wants to
better comprehend how people and organizations can adapt
effectively in the information age. This book is a step-by-step
guide to understanding the processes of variation, interaction, and
selection that are at work in all organizations. The authors show
how to use their own paradigm of "bottom up" management, the
Complex Adaptive System-whether in science, public policy, or
private commerce. This simple model of how people work together
will change forever how we think about getting things done in a
group."Harnessing Complexity distills the managerial essence of
current research on complexity....A very valuable contribution to
the emerging theory of competition and competitive advantage."-C.K.
Prahalad, University of Michigan, coauthor of Competing for the
Future"A brilliant exposition that demystifies both the theory and
use of Complex Adaptive Systems."-John Seely Brown, Xerox
Corporation and Palo Alto Research Center

Does state acquisition of nuclear weapons lead to stability and
peace or instability and crises? This is one of the great debates
in international relations scholarship. Michael D. Cohen argues
that nuclear weapons acquisition often does dangerously embolden
the acquiring state to undertake coercion and aggression, but that
this behavior moderates over time as leaders learn the dangers and
limitations of nuclear coercion. This book examines the historical
cases of the Soviet Union and Pakistan in depth and also looks at
mini-cases involving the United States, China, and India. This book
broadens our understanding of how leaders and states behave when
they acquire nuclear weapons and is important reading for scholars
and students of international relations, security studies, and
political psychology.

"[An] intellectually stimulating collection of essays." --Business Today How do organizations learn, change, and adapt? The study of "organizational learning" allows researchers to map an organization's past behavior and gain insight into how stream of experience becomes a basis for action in the present. The chapters in Organizational Learning, all from first-rate researchers, contribute to the development of organizational learning theory in three ways. They delineate its scope, differentiating it from ecology, choice, and individual learning. They demonstrate the explanatory power of a learning perspective, and they illustrate the application of research tools useful for studies of learning. Organizational Learning is an essential resource for scholars and researchers in the field of organization and management studies.
