The 14 new essays in this collection come from underrepresented
faculty who teach at predominantly white colleges and universities.
This book discusses both the tenure and promotion experiences of
faculty of color and is not racial, ethnic, gender, cultural or
discipline specific. The book is thus not only for aspiring
graduate students of color and faculty of color desirous of outside
mentoring, but is also aimed toward administrators interested in
the professional development and dilemmas of faculty of color. As
they share their reflections and strategies firsthand, faculty of
color describe how they navigated the complex terrain of higher
education to achieve tenure or promotion. Most of the contributors
are at the associate professor stage of their careers and some hold
the rank of full professor. In their narratives they discuss their
personal identity, professional backgrounds, and life experiences
as they relate to their journeys through the tenure and promotion
process.

Michael Mas entwichelt eine allgemeine Theorie zur Erklarung von
Einstellungen zu Fremdgruppen. Diese beruht auf der Theorie
Rationalen Handelns und einer Reihe von Annahmen aus
sozial-psychologischen Theorien (Balance-Theorie, Social
Identity-Theorie, Attituden-Theorie). Auf der Grundlage dieses
Modells leitet der Autor Hypothesen zum Zusammenhang von
Regionalismus, Nationalismus und Fremdenfeindlichkeit ab, die mit
einem Panel-Datensatz getestet werden.
This book is a compilation of essays from students coming from
countless backgrounds, many of which are historically
underrepresented in the Western academic practice of science. Each
chapter discusses language and cultural barriers to understanding
Western science, what is public engagement in science, and what are
ethical considerations scientists should make as people, whether
the lab coat is on or off. These perspectives diminish the
simplicity of making science "easy & fun" (hence our neologism,
"unsimplify") in order to engage the public and challenge
scientists, medical practitioners, journalists, and science
educators to think more critically about who makes up "the public"
that they serve.
Neurofibromatosis is a disease that disturbs the proper growth of
the cells of your nervous system. It is genetic, which means that
you may suffer from it because one or both of your parents had this
disease. If you get affected with neurofibromatosis, you have an
increased risk of being affected with other kinds of tumors related
to nervous system, such as spinal cord tumors. Cancer is caused by
neurofibromatosis tumors in very rare cases. So far, there is no
definite cure for neurofibromatosis. However, researchers and
clinicians have discovered new ways to treat patients with specific
neurofibromatosis-related problems.

This book is dedicated to works by Michael Müller (*1970)
commenting on four paintings by Gerhard Richter (*1932) entitled
"Birkenau"; they aim to reappraise the cruel historical fact of
Auschwitz II/Birkenau extermination camp in various artistic forms.
Direct as the critical comments on Richter may be, they are
accompanied by many less conspicuous, quieter, one might even say
wounded works by Müller, which were shown at the Museum im
Kulturspeicher Würzburg in 2022/23 and will be exhibited at St.
Matthew’s Church in Berlin’s Kulturforum in spring 2023 to
coincide with the publication of this book. The thematic focus of
both exhibitions is the so-called "Sonderkommando", a work
detachment of selected Jewish prisoners from 1942 to 1944/45, who
were forced to prepare for and clear up after the extermination of
their fellow human beings under SS supervision and facing a
constant threat to their lives. The book documents the key works of
this demanding artistic investigation by Michael Müller and
contextualises them in a detailed essay by art historian Lukas
Töpfer (*1988).
