Informal, non-classroom based contexts can make an important
contribution to learning for pupils studying science. Whether the
outcomes are measurable in terms of their contribution to the
planned curriculum, or in terms of the development of the
individual, their impact is significant and long lasting.
This book shows you how to use a wide range of contexts for
learning science with your pupils, including:
* Learning from freshwater habitats
* Learning at museums and science centers
* Learning in zoos and farms
* Learning on industrial sites
Using case-studies and with contributions from practitioners in all
fields of science education, "Learning to Teach Science Outside the
Classroom" offers practical guidance for teachers in primary and
secondary schools, enabling you to widen the scientific experience

Sex education is rarely out of the news. Despite this, there exist surprisingly few studies of the principles, policies and practice of sex education. This book provides such an examination, focusing on the values to which children are exposed in sex education. Sex education inevitably involves the transmission of values, regardless of whether this is intended by teachers. Throughout the book, academic and professional literature on both values and sex education is reviewed and discussed. The authors look at the implicit liberal values, which underpin programmes of sex education, and at the challenges presented by the diversity of values in contemporary society. The book also considers: * Why values are central to sex education * Children's voices and children's values * Religious and family values * Achievable aims for school sex education * How to help young people to reflect critically on the influences to which they are exposed and on their own developing sexual values * How to build values into practical approaches to sex education at both primary and secondary levels. This timely book will help all those involved in sex education to steer a path between controversial and often opposing views and will be essential reading for students on PGCE and BEd courses. It will also be a valuable resource for teachers and professionals involved in teaching sex education such as teachers of personal and social education, form tutors, heads of year, school nurses, health workers and academics.
Young people are increasingly being exposed to the huge and complex ethical dilemmas involved in issues such as genetic modification, animal rights and cloning, and they are bringing their views into the classroom. But how can teachers be sure they are sufficiently well-informed to help their pupils make sense of the diverse and emotive arguments surrounding these issues?
This book may hold the answer. Written by leading ethicists, scientists and technologists, it offers a balanced and jargon-free guide to such highly debated topics as:
* Cloning
* In vitro fertilisation
*Genetic screening and genetic engineering
*Farm animal welfare
* The use of animals in medical experiments
Written specifically for the non-specialist teacher or lecturer, this book also contains suggestions on how to approach the teaching of bioethics and provides useful sources of further information. It may also be of interest to undergraduates on science courses.
Given the National Curriculum Council's failure to issue any formal
guidance on the subject, multicultural education is becoming
increasingly marginalized and left to individual schools. This book
provides guidance and advice to schools on issues of racial
equality and cultural diversity. It helps teachers, managers and
governors implement the requirements and expectations of new
educational legislation since the 1988 Education Reform Act and its
associated non-statutory advice and guidance.; Within a whole
school curriculum framework, chapters provide analysis and
practical guidance for each subject area of the National
Curriculum. With responsibility for multicultural education resting
largely on individual schools, this book sets out to aid schools of
all kinds, primary, secondary, grant maintained and LEA, to ensure
that issues of racial equality and cultural diversity are addressed
throughout the whole curriculum.; It is aimed at teachers at all
levels, Heads of Education Departments, Mentors, Governors,
Advisers, INSET course tutors, students on PGCE, BEd.MEd. courses
and those doing a BA in Education.

NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME
In April 2007, a report produced by the International Monetary Fund
concluded that the world economy was in great shape only for the
biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression to hit just
months later. How could economists have got it so wrong? When
engineers try to understand complex systems, they are forced to
make simplifying assumptions. Sadly if these are flawed, no amount
of mathematical wizardry will repair the damage. This book examines
the possibility that the problem with economics stems from flawed
assumptions. It appears that mainstream economics set off on the
wrong foot. This book uncovers many such flaws and shows how the
resulting bad economic theories have devastating consequences. Dr
Michael Reiss shows how, with more realistic assumptions,
economics, and our economic system, can be rescued.

Behaviour describes animal and human behaviour, including
environmental influence, behavioural development, courtship and
social interaction. It covers all the material required for the
study of behaviour at A-level, whilst at the same time providing an
accessible and informative introduction to the fascinating science
of behaviour. The authors provide a list of further reading for
those who wish to learn more. The Advanced Biology Topics series of
books will be of interest to students studying a wide variety of
biological subjects at A-level, or as part of a vocational or
undergraduate course.
zukunftige Entwicklung, darzustellen. Unter den grossen Rubriken
"I. Allgemeine Diagnostik und Erkrankungen", "II. Spezielle
HNO-Heilkunde", "III. Therapie", "IV. Praktische HNO-Heilkunde",
"V. Wirtschaft, Recht, Begutachtung" (Besondere Probleme, z. B.
Gesundheitsoekonomie) sowie "Vl. Anhang" (A- neimittelwirkungen und
