With his trademark charm and biting wit, award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore sets off on a rollicking journey to the heart of America, hoping to discover why the American pursuit of happiness is so riddled with mass violence.
Moore boldly asks a question that post September 11, no other American dare ask: “Are we a nation of gun nuts – or are we just nuts?”
For Americans, it is a damningly funny indictment of a culture of fear that is armed to the teeth and running amuck. For everyone else it is a humorous warning about what coul happen to any country that chooses the American Way of creating a massive permanent underclass that must be fought off with constitutionally protected Uzi.
This book is designed for the serious student of Chinese medicine.
Both the beginner and advanced practitioner will find this
information useful from school to everyday clinical practice. The
first section of the book covers a basic history and evolution of
the six stages of disease. Chapter Two reviews various theoretical
concepts related to the six stages. Symptoms and treatment
concepts, according to the Chinese classic Shang Han Lun, are
examined in Chapter Three. In Chapter Four complications of
combined and overlapping stages of disease show how disease many
times will not follow the normal progression of the Six Stage
Model. An in- depth study of conformations and the basic treatment
concepts for each of the stages are presented in Chapter Five. A
quick overview of the twenty-four basic classifications of Chinese
herbal formulas will be found in Chapter Six. Primary herbs for
each stage and their related formulas are examined in Chapter
Seven. Chapter Eight deals with differential diagnosis of syndromes
and treatment. Conformations for formulas and a comparison to other
formulas from the Classic Shang Han Lun (Treaties on Fever and
Chills) and the Jen Kuei Yao Lue (Perceptions from the Golden
Chamber) are the main emphasis in Chapter Nine. Practitioners will
find Chapter Ten a very useful clinical reference of all ninety
herbal formulas (in table form) found in this book. In Chapter
Eleven, there are four major lists dealing with the names of
individual herbs. The first three lists are a cross reference for
herbs listed by the Pin Yin, Pharmaceutical, and Common names. The
fourth list gives the classification and function of the 118 herbs
used in this work.
Technology has become deeply integrated into modern society and
various activities throughout everyday life. However, this

Basics of Game Design is for anyone wanting to become a
professional game designer. Focusing on creating the game mechanics
for data-driven games, it covers role-playing, real-time strategy,
first-person shooter, simulation, and other games. Written by a
25-year veteran of the game industry, the guide offers detailed
explanations of how to design the data sets used to resolve game
play for moving, combat, solving puzzles, interacting with NPCs,
managing inventory, and much more. Advice on developing stories for
games, building maps and levels, and designing the graphical user
interface is also included.
""I had an unusually large-sized head, though this was not uncommon
for a baby in the Midwest. The craniums in our part of the country
were designed to leave a little extra room for the brain to grow in
case one day we found ourselves exposed to something we didn't
understand, like a foreign language, or a salad.""
Michael Moore-Oscar-winning filmmaker, bestselling author, the
nation's unofficial provocateur laureate-is back, this time taking
on an entirely new role, that of his own meta-Forest Gump. Breaking
the autobiographical mode, he presents twenty-four far-ranging,
irreverent, and stranger-than-fiction vignettes from his own early
life. One moment he's an eleven-year-old boy lost in the Senate and
found by Bobby Kennedy; and in the next, he's inside the Bitburg
cemetery with a dazed and confused Ronald Reagan. Fast-forwarding
to 2003, he stuns the world by uttering the words "We live in
fictitious times . . . with a fictitious president" in place of the
expected "I'd like to thank the Academy." And none of that even
comes close to the night the friendly priest at the seminary
decides to show him how to perform his own exorcism. Capturing the
zeitgeist of the past fifty years, yet deeply personal and
unflinchingly honest, HERE COMES TROUBLE takes readers on an
unforgettable, take-no-prisoners ride through the life and times of
Michael Moore. No one will come away from this book without a sense
of surprise about the Michael Moore most of us didn't know.
Alternately funny, eye-opening, and moving, it's a book he has been
writing-and living-his entire life.
Called the "godfather of American herbalists," Michael Moore first
published his celebrated "Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West in
1979. A lot has changed in the field of botanical medicine in the
intervening years. Drawing on research over his thirty-five-year
career as a teacher, merchant, and alternative-medicine
practitioner, Moore updates and revises his guide to further expose
the botanical wealth of the mountain west region. Accessible to
professionals and nonprofessionals alike, this comprehensive guide
covers the entire range of medicinal herbs found in New Mexico,
Arizona, West Texas, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and California. In its
easy-to-use format, plant species are presented with both botanical
and popular names, with descriptions and notations of habitat. Each
plant is illustrated with color photographs or line drawings and
accompanied by maps showing the plant's distribution. "Medicinal
Plants of the Mountain West and "Medicinal Plants of the Desert and
Canyon West are unsurpassed as field guides and for their
authoritative information on collection and medicinal preparation.
What challenges are posed by changing transnational trends, agendas
and movements that affect disabled people's lives, and what can
disabled people, their representative organisations and their
governments do to advance the agenda for self-determination and
inclusion? This book draws together the writing of academics and
activists to depict the experience and perspective of disabled
people in relation to a range of contemporary social changes, with
a focus firmly on ways in which disabled people and their allies
can act to counter disabling policies and practices. Throughout the
book there is an emphasis on disabled people's own voices and
activism as the critical driver of theoretical critique and
practical change. Chapters address a wide range of cultural,
institutional and personal arenas to explore and contest the
boundaries that disabled people seek to move beyond, from
cross-border labour movements in Korea to experience of day
services in England, from continuing and long-lasting realities of
wars in Lebanon, Cambodia and Somalia to the beauty of harmony in
Navajo traditions for understanding disability, from collective
activism to individual participation in the Olympics. This book is
recommended reading for students, researchers and activists
interested in Disability Studies and is directly relevant to policy
makers and practitioners in a position to reshape rights, spaces
and innovations in response to the priorities disabled people feel
and articulate are important for their lives. It was originally
published as a special issue of Disability & Society.
A wealth of information about herbal remedies native to the
Southwest, infused with wisdom, wit, and personal reminiscences.

This book provides a space in which struggles for indigenous
knowledge within communities are articulated, valued, heard, and
responded to. The volume takes change as its focus, yet
acknowledges that the origins and significance of change are
frequently found to be unsettling. Contributors explore different
understandings of change that forge sustainable, inclusive and just
communities and examine issues related to citizenship, resistance,
peacemaking, critical literacies, and second chance opportunities.
The authors seek to promote advocacy of change that recognises the
importance of an informed engagement with cross-cultural issues in
order to foreground those missing perspectives that are often
marginalised, silenced, ignored or denied. All contributors are
concerned with how the process of change can bridge the gap between
social justice and exclusion and develop critical understandings of
the implications of changing policy and practice for those within
and working with the educational organisations and communities.
Easily staged scenes with believable characters in a wide variety
of comic and dramatic situations. The duets are divided into four
categories: Gender Neutral; Male & Female; Male Only; Female
Only. The short length of each duet scene makes it easy for
students to memorise lines. Excellent for contests, acting practice
or comedy revue shows.
Researching Life Stories critically and pragmatically reflects upon
the use of life stories in social and educational research. Using
four life stories as examples, the authors apply four different,
practical approaches to demonstrate effective research and
analysis.
As well as examining in detail the four life stories around which
the book is written, areas covered include:
* Method and methodology in life story research
* Analysis
* Reflections on analyses
* Craft and ethics in researching life
* Policy, practice and theory in life story research.
Throughout the book the authors demystify the issues surrounding
life story research and demonstrate the significance of this
approach to understanding individual and social worlds.
This unique approach to life story research will be a valuable
resource for all social science and education researchers at
undergraduate and postgraduate level.
