This book focuses on the theory and design methods for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) in the context of spacecraft rendezvous and docking (RVD). The position and attitude dynamics and kinematics equations for RVD are presented systematically in accordance with several different coordinate systems, including elliptical orbital frame, and recommendations are supplied on which of these equations to use in different phases of RVD. The book subsequently explains the basic principles and relative navigation algorithms of RVD sensors such as GNSS, radar, and camera-type RVD sensors. It also provides guidance algorithms and schemes for different phases of RVD, including the latest research advances in rapid RVD. In turn, the book presents a detailed introduction to intelligent adaptive control and proposes corresponding theoretical approaches to thruster configuration and control allocation for RVD. Emphasis is placed on the design method of active and passive trajectory protection in different phases of RVD, and on the safety design of the RVD mission as a whole. For purposes of verification, the Shenzhou spacecraft's in-orbit flight mission is introduced as well. All issues addressed are described and explained from basic principles to detailed engineering methods and examples, providing aerospace engineers and students both a basic understanding of, and numerous practical engineering methods for, GNC system design in RVD.
This book mainly discusses about the alter ego perspectives in literary historiography. This comparative analysis of the major Chinese literary histories in China and in the West brings to light the alter ego perspectives of Stephen Owen in literary historiography. The most interesting part of the book will be the interpretation of new notions and perspectives proposed by Stephen Owen, especially in the newly published The Cambridge History of Chinese Literature (2010). This book gives a detailed overview about the different stages of writing Chinese literary history and the different modes of literary historiography in China and in the West. Two case studies of Chinese poems are made on the notion of discursive communities and the Cultural Tang. Readers will a better understanding about the paradigm of literary historiography and the interrelationships between the different modes of literary historiography and the intellectual history.
An important contribution to the multi-disciplinary study of literacy, narrative and culture, this work argues that literacy is perhaps best described as an ensemble of socially and historically embedded activities of cultural practices. It suggests viewing written language, producing and distributing, deciphering and interpreting signs, are closely related to other cultural practices such as narrative and painting. Multimodalities and Chinese Students' L2 Practices: Identity, Community, and Literacy explores the complex relations and interactions among multimodality, positioning, and agency in increasingly digitized, multilingual, and multicultural contexts. Min Wang uses interview narratives, WeChat exchanges, and class observations and field notes of three Chinese international students' lived experiences of English learning and use in their everyday environments to show that these L2 learners recognized, appreciated, and appropriated affordances of multiple modes and digital tools for their L2 literacies practices. Through these tools and modes, they positioned themselves as confident, able, and competent L2 users, but sometimes also struggling and ambivalent. The practice of meaning-making, remaking, designing, and redesigning demonstrated their agency as L2 learners, which motivated and inspired them to (re)produce and (re)create meanings through discourses for the purpose of presenting desired and anticipated positionings. Positioned as cultural and social beings, these L2 learners presented their self-understandings and self-representations through symbolic and material artifacts, interactions with local and non-local people, and engagement in WeChat discussions and ELI learning. To obtain multimembership, they assumed rights, obligations, and expectations in order to become legitimate community members. In the process of becoming, their agency was promoted, negotiated, or sometimes limited by micro-social structures and ongoing interactions.

Understanding how uncertainty effects the dynamics and behavior of an organization is a critical aspect of system design. Models and methods that take uncertainty into account can lead to significant reductions in cost. This book investigates the use of stochastic optimization models for a generalized assignment problem (GAP) with uncertain resource capacity and a shift planning and scheduling problem (SPSP) with unknown demand. For the GAP, the first stage decisions correspond to an assignment of jobs to agents. Penalties are incurred when the assignments do not permit all demand to be satisfied. For the SPSP, the number of full-time and part-time employees, as well as the number of full- time shifts by type, must be specified before the demand is known. In the second stage, feasibility is addressed by allocating overtime and calling in temporary workers to handle spikes in the mail volume. This book contains the development and analysis of stochastic integer models for the GAP and the SPSP and the estimation of the demand distributions from historical data. To solve the associated stochastic integer problems, the column generation algorithms are developed.
