One of the first major theoretical reviews of schizophrenia since
the publication of the 5th edition of the APA's Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual, the DSM-5, this volume is a landmark in the
history of schizophrenia research. It assembles recent
groundbreaking developments in research on schizophrenia and
reaffirms its central place in the mental health research agenda.
Significantly, this volume reflects the paradigmatic shift in
schizophrenia research applied in parallel to new approaches in
psychiatric diagnosis. New models and findings from across
disciplines in recent years reflect a new and greater understanding
of the workings of the brain, which, in turn, helps develop our
knowledge of the neuro and psychological processes in
schizophrenia. Consequently, this volume illustrates a historical
convergence of psychology, psychopathology and the neurosciences in
schizophrenia. World-renowned leaders of the schizophrenia research
community in fields such as neuroscience, p sychiatry,
neuropsychology, and clinical psychology offer clear suggestions
for further advances in psychological and medical interventions,
assessment, prevention strategies, and research. And in keeping
with other titles in the Nebraska Symposium on Motivation series,
these papers are noteworthy for their depth of detail, scientific
rigor, and clinical relevance. Included among the topics: Cognitive
organization as a dimension of individual differences and
psychopathology. Neurodevelopmental genomic strategies in the study
of the psychosis spectrum. Multimodal brain and behavior indices of
psychosis risk. The NIMH Research Domain Criteria Project: new
approaches to classifying psychotic spectrum disorders. The
Neuropsychopathology of Schizophrenia is one of the most
forward-thinking and engaging treatments of the field in recent
years, and is an i ndispensable text for all researchers,
academics, and clinicians who treat or study mental illness,
especially psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health
practitioners, and neuroscientists specializing in schizophrenia.
This edited volume offers a rich collection of up-to-date research
and critical scholarship from various African institutions on
incidents of youth violence, intervention and prevention in
sub-Saharan Africa. It integrates thinking, evidence, responses,
and debates relating to this topic, laying the basis for fresh
insights and innovative strategies. The chapters capture a spectrum
of pertinent issues such as economic hardship, lockdowns, sexual
and reproductive health, pregnancy, online sexual harassment,
xenophobic violence, and micro-aggressions in school contexts, and
present guidelines on how countries might learn from successful
interventions recently implemented. They explore young people's
access to familial and community resources, state-sponsored
initiatives, peer counselling, youth-friendly services, and other
relevant structures. Thus, among other things, this volume
stimulates further debate on what is driving violence in different
African contexts-specifically, how intersectional identities create
vulnerabilities to violence-and influences ways of dealing with the
issue. This interdisciplinary and cross-cutting volume serves as a
vital resource for experts at universities, in international
organisations, civil society groups and intergovernmental
organisations who wish to both analyse and take action to address
and prevent the type of violence that currently afflicts young
people sub-Saharan Africa today.

T-type calcium channels are prevalent in every organ of the body,
and are believed to play a part in a variety of physiological
processes, including contraction, shape change, secretion, endo-
and exocytosis, cell proliferation and differentiation, modulation
of enzyme function, and cell cycle progression. As such, research
on the roles of these channels in a wide range of diseases has
attracted increasing attention in recent years. The purpose of this
book is to present a series of unique and comprehensive reviews of
our current understanding of T-type calcium channels at the level
of the basic sciences as well as the clinical sciences. For key
organ systems, information is provided on the correlation between
the molecular, biophysical and pharmacological properties of the
channels, their cellular mechanisms, and their potential roles in
the pathogenesis of various diseases. The compilation presents both
commonplace and less well-known findings on these channels in a
format designed to appeal to both casual readers and specialists in
basic and clinical research on these transporters.
This book provides a comprehensive theory of mono- and
multi-fractal traffic, including the basics of long-range dependent
time series and 1/f noise, ergodicity and predictability of
traffic, traffic modeling and simulation, stationarity tests of
traffic, traffic measurement and the anomaly detection of traffic
in communications networks. Proving that mono-fractal LRD time
series is ergodic, the book exhibits that LRD traffic is
stationary. The author shows that the stationarity of multi-fractal
traffic relies on observation time scales, and proposes
multi-fractional generalized Cauchy processes and modified
multi-fractional Gaussian noise. The book also establishes a set of
guidelines for determining the record length of traffic in
measurement. Moreover, it presents an approach of traffic
simulation, as well as the anomaly detection of traffic under
distributed-denial-of service attacks. Scholars and graduates
studying network traffic in computer science will find the book
beneficial.

In recent decades, Chinese cities have experienced profound social,
economic and spatial transformations. In particular, Chinese cities
have witnessed the largest housing boom in history and
unprecedented housing privatization. China now is a country of
homeowners, with more than 70 per cent of urban residents owning
homes, higher than many developed countries. This book shows how
China's spectacular housing success is not shared by all social
groups, with rapidly rising housing inequality, and residential
segregation increasingly prevalent in previously homogeneous
Chinese cities. It focuses on the two extremes of the residential
landscape, and reveals the stark contrast between low-income
households who live in shacks in so-called 'urban villages' and the
nouveaux riches who live in exclusive gated villa communities. Over
four parts, the contributors look at the degree to which inequality
affects Chinese cities, and the extent of residential
differentiation; housing for the urban poor, and in particular,
housing for migrants from rural China; housing for the rapidly
expanding Chinese middle class and the new rich; and finally,
governance in residential neighbourhoods. Housing Inequality in
Chinese Cities presents theoretically informed and empirically
grounded research into the polarized residential landscape in
Chinese cities, and as such will be of great interest to students
and scholars of Chinese studies, urban geography, urban sociology,
and urban studies.
Climate change is a huge challenge to humanity in the 21th century.
In view of China's recent pledge to the international community to
peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by
2060, this book examines climate mitigation and adaptation efforts
in China through the prism of the steel sector, and it does so from
three interrelated perspectives, i.e., policy, technology, and
market. The book argues that in developing the country's strategy
towards green growth, over the years there has been a positive and
interactive relationship between China's international commitments
and domestic agenda setting in mitigation and adaptation to the
impact of climate change. To illustrate China's efforts, two
special areas, i.e., carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS)
and emissions-trading system (ETS), have received focused
examination. Along the spectrum of low-carbon, zero-carbon, and
negative-carbon strategies, this study ends with a simulation model
which outlines different policy scenarios, challenges, and
uncertainties, as China moves further on, trying to achieve carbon
neutrality in 2060. The book will be of interest to scholars,
policy-makers, and business executives who want to understand
China's growing role in the world.
This is a compilation of tributes to a gentleman who has impacted
the field of biomedical engineering and musculoskeletal science for
four decades through his research, his guidance and mentorships,
his friendships, and his love for the field, family, and friends.
It provides readers with a view of how one man can impact so many.
This pivot considers the impact of INSET courses on EFL teachers
practicing under the national curriculum reform in China. Providing
context-specific findings on the policy and implementation of INSET
as well as its impact on teacher education initiatives in both
China and similar contexts, it explores the limitations of one off
training events such as INSET and the inconsistency between teacher
learning results and their classroom practices. The book argues
that teachers, when returning to pre-INSET teaching, are influenced
by their prior deeply-rooted beliefs largely considered more
powerful than newly-learnt theories. Addressing the rarely
discussed fact that the complex and dynamic characteristics of
teacher learning change over time and support the construct of
teacher learning as a social event rather than a one-off event, the
book also offers practical solutions on how to improve teacher
education and enhance the long-term INSET impact on teacher
development, with the ambition of promoting education reform for
both teachers and students alike.
This book provides an up-to-date guide, for a variety of
