In Theology and the Marvel Universe, fourteen contributors examine
theological themes and ideas in the comic books, television shows,
and films that make up the grand narrative of the Marvel Universe.
Engaging in dialogue with theological thinkers such as Willie James
Jennings, Franz Rosenzweig, Soren Kierkegaard, Rene Girard, Kelly
Brown Douglas, and many others, the chapters explore a wide variety
of topics, including violence, sacrifice, colonialism,
Israeli-Palestinian relations, virtue ethics, character formation,
identity formation, and mythic reinvention. This book demonstrates
that the stories of Thor, Daredevil, Sabra, Spider-Man, Jessica
Jones, Thanos, Luke Cage, and others engage not just our
imagination, but our theological imagination as well.

Have you ever left a class or training program excited about what
you learned, only to realize a month later that you have applied
little of it back on the job? As a training manager have you ever
invested significant dollars and resources to carefully design and
deploy a training program only to see little or no shift in
individual behavior or culture afterwards? Even when your students
passed the knowledge tests and you are certain learning occurred?
As learning professionals, we often focus on the easy
goal--imparting knowledge--and ignoring what it really takes to
create lasting change. Creating a lasting impact on people and
organizations requires much more than knowledge transfer. Lasting
change occurs when learners practice and perfect what they have
learned back on the job, building real skills instead of acquiring
factual information, and, most difficult of all, changing habits so
those new skills are applied consistently for real business results
and bad habits are killed off.
Today there is little time in class to practice skills to a
minimal level of proficiency, let alone achieve outstanding
performance. Learners focus their attention back to their job and
forget what they learned, despite all good intentions.
Post-training reinforcement has been difficult and labor intensive.
Traditional action learning can be effective but the resources
needed to do it properly are not always available for every
training effort. In today's world, instructors and managers don't
have the time to monitor key objectives once students leave the
classroom (or the learning management system). The follow-up to
monitor cohort teams and schedule discussions can overwhelm
instructors or training organizations. Sound familiar?
The good news is that "#SUCCESSFUL CORPORATE LEARNING tweet
Book10: Making Learning Stick: Transforming Knowledge into
Performance" is full of simple research-based techniques you can
use to make training stick. Ways to activate knowledge, improve
retention, and extend skill practice. Techniques to shape behavior

can be used today to extend your reach, and help you to reinforce
learning, promote retention, build better habits, and create
lasting success.

In our modern, often volatile economy, we can no longer expect
permanent or long term employment with any one employer. Today's
worker has, on average, multiple jobs and even multiple careers.
Layoffs, terminations, and pink slips are so universal that they
are now euphemistically called downsizing or rightsizing. But
whatever the label, the process is no easier to deal with--not for
the employee whose services are being terminated nor for the
organization and executives who initiate the termination.
Fortunately, there is a silver lining to all this turbulence,
and that is that the concept of career transition is here to stay.
Career transition is the process by which the terminating
organization assists terminated employees with making the
transition and often helps in the search for new employment. While
the benefits to the employee are apparent, what is less clear are
the benefits to the company effecting the downsizing. Career
transition helps displaced employees understand the business
reasons for tough corporate decisions. By keeping such displaced,
often disgruntled, employees focused on their own future, it shifts
attention away from personal negatives like depression and greater
ills like expensive lawsuits. Strategic and compassionate career
transition services have therefore become part of today's corporate
environment.
In "#SUCCESSFUL CORPORATE LEARNING tweet Book04: Career
Transition Training and Services That Work in Today's Environment"
career transition expert "Barbara Safani" collaborates with Amazon
best-selling author "Mitchell Levy" to show you how to make the
career transition journey a little bit easier. A worthy read for
any mid- or senior-level executive who is faced either directly or
indirectly with the prospect of downsizing, this little volume
packs a punch well above its weight. It will help you and your
organization manage a difficult downsizing process smoothly, while
preserving your company's reputation and treating displaced
employees with dignity and respect.
