Unter Berucksichtigung der neueren Forschung soll die Frage nach dem Urheber des Ediktes diskutiert werden. Ziel dabei ist es, die judische Perspektive aufzuzeigen, je-doch zu versuchen, ebenso die Beweggrunde des Seleukidenkonigs nachzuvollziehen. In diesem Zusammenhang muss auch nach der Intention der Verfasser antiker judischer Quellen gefragt werden und welchen Zweck sie mit einer entsprechend negativen Darstellung Antiochos IV. verfolgten. Hierzu soll eine nahere Betrachtung des Buches Daniel dienen, an dessen Beispiel man all diese Hintergrunde gut nachvollziehen kann. Auch wird dort die Vielschichtigkeit der Interpretationsmuster deutlich und es kann gezeigt werden, dass zahlreiche Fakten nur noch gemutmasst werden konnen, jedoch trotzdem in der Forschung zu regelrechten Glaubenskampfen erwachsen sind."
